I installed Vista Home Prem. and was having some problems so I reloaded it and everything seems to be running very smooth besides one problem. Any time I go to open a program and it ask me if I want to allow and I click allow I get a black screen for about 5 seconds afterwards. This all happens when I download anything also. Is anyone one else having this problem or have a solution? Its a bit annoying!!! |

Could you tell us more about the hardware you have on your computer? Motherboard, GPU, RAM, that kind of stuff. Could just be driver issues as many problems are resolved by getting updated drivers. Without anymore information about the hardware I would say that it is a problem with the drivers for your Graphics card and suggest you try to find as up to date as possible.

Try to use this driver version (158.24), it looks like it is new. http://www.nvidia.com/object/winvista_x86_158.24.html

The black screen is the tranistion between open and secure desktop when using the UAC account. Usually it is very small or pretty much non-existent. Your issue could be nvidia drivers like juggernaut is saying. You MUST update from the nvidia website and not through the Vista device manager to get the newest drivers. I would also suggest that the issue is related to system performance. Therefore you should remove any non essential items from start up etc. If you don't know how you maximise your PCs performance, or would like tips, then post back. The issue may also be due to your power management settings. Laptops use power settings which maximise the battery life but can reduce performance. One of the ways it does this is by lowering your CPU frequency when it isnt being used. Try updating your power profile to 'Best performance' and see if that helps. Once you have done all of the above, the black screen will be as small as it is going to get. If it is still bothering you, there is a way to keep UAC but remove the secure desktop (I believe), but we will cross that bridge when we come to it. crabby Last edited by crabby : 06-27-2007 at 10:15 AM.

How to Enable Windows Vista Administrator Account Method 1 Under the command prompt shell window, run the following command: net user administrator /active:yes Method 2 Enable the built-in Administrator account by using the Local Users and Groups MMC console to change the properties of Administrator account: 1. Open the MMC console and select Local Users and Groups. 2. Right-click the Administrator account and select Properties. The Administrator Properties window appears. 3. On the General tab, clear the Account is Disabled box. 4. Close the MMC console. 5. Administrator access is now enabled/disabled. ----------------------------------------------- to completey stop the blink, you can then disable UAC, this is not recommended, and there are many posts about what happens if/when you DISABLE UAC.

I tried what everyone recommended with no luck. I did have to download the new driver from the HP website because it would not allow me download directly from the grapic card website for some reason and am not sure if this would make a difference. Again, what doesnt make sense to me is that the first time I loaded Vista I did not have this problem. I had to reload Vista because I was having other problems and now I have this problem. The delay is happening anytime Im ask to give permission for downloads and from opening programs. The delay again is about 5 seconds. I just dont know what to do, Im thinking of trying to contact Microsoft directly on this?

You can contact them directly but their o/s works so they probably wont help. The issue is pretty matter of fact. Something is running slow so that it takes a while to load the screen. If your power settings are set to full power, try looking at the advanced features to make sure that throttling is disabled and none of your hardware has a stand-by mode etc enabled. You might also want to remove any disks that you havein the drives. Also, have task manager open and check how much of your resources are being used. You can also use the reliability and performance monitor. crabby
