Ok this one is right royal pain. Have just updated my Vaio VGN-FE38GP to vista and initially I experienced a few problems with drivers not installing properly, however all drivers appear to be working ok now. The problem I have is this: I have my documents folder located on a separate partition to the operating system. When i first went to access my documents from the start menu(which was pointing to the correct folder on the second partition) I instantly got the blue screen of death. I could however access this folder with no issues by opening up the drive folder and then the documents folder from its physical location. I had no problems accessing my pictures and music folders, nor my user folder and then the default documents folder(which was obviously empty) from the start menu. I then thought I would copy all my files back to the default folder to see if it would fix the problem, and sure enough it worked, however, opening my user folder from the start menu suddenly meant horrible blue screens. So I then decided that: maybe because this secondary documents folder was created using xp(and potentially that was the problem), if I then recreated it with Vista it might work ok. Sure enough it did, however I still get the blue screen if I click on my user folder from the start menu(I can however still access it via computer/drive/users/etc). I am trying to be careful not to click on the start menu's user folder link, however occasionally your mouse moves a bit and bang - blue screen. Anyone got any bright ideas about what might be going on? I'm waiting for a response from Sony but don't hold much hope as I am accustomed to their crap support. Thanks for any theories Matt |

remove it... then reboot and the GOOD folder link is there... or you can also use ( 1 of many programs) that check and remove back shortcuts . I use Vista Manager, but Many Reg cleaners have the same ability, and SysMechanic, many 3rd party program will fix that...

| All good...removed link...rebooted...ran a reg clean using Vista Manager...configured link back onto start menu and now all works fine. Thanks for the mention of Vista Manager, it's the most thorough I've seen so far. I've been using TweakVI which is pretty good but missed a lot that Vista Manasger picked up. |

| Excellent, glad that all got fixed. The littlest things are the most annoying.. I gave up on Tweak xx ages ago... and Vista Manager I have used to replace System Mechanic ( grossy blotted program - IMHO - worse than Windows). but many of the features in SysMechanic are simply GREAT, Glad all worked out...
