Since The Australian Launch Of Vista, I Have Been Contemplating Replacing My Old Computer With A New One, And Having Vista Installed Along With Office 2007. I Was Given A Quick Tour Of Vista By A Salesman In A Large Department Store, And I Was Suitably Impressed, But Since Talking To A Number Of Friends, It Seems That All Is Not Well With Vista. I Came To This Forum For Some Answers, And Found That Indeed, There Seems To Be Many Problems Associated With Vista. So, What Should I Do? Buy Now Or Wait Till Microsoft Have Ironed Out Most Of These Problems. Thanks Paul |

| Hello and Welcome to Vista Babble, in regards to Vista what i would say is vista has some problems but its highly usable. When you buy a PC with Vista installed on it you know that all the hardware is going to work atleast and this throws most hardware issues out the window. As for software you will have to take a look at what software you have now and do some studies to see if they work on vista or if they have an updated Vista version. If you follow this then you will find Vista to be a great buy. Personally i like it so much i couldn't do with out it but you might not think so, i would suggest you ask the guy in the store for a in depth demo of Vista...see what you think hope this helps mate Ant

| No doubt if you went to an XP help forum, you'd think XP had many issues as well. It's the nature of the forum that we are here to help people who have issues. That said, follow Znod's advice, and I think you'll be happy.

| It is worth noting that whenever a problem is posted here it has a few noticable features (usually): 1. It is specific to the users, and so shouldnt affect others. 2. It is usually related to a third party program or driver. 3. We can usually figure out a work around until it is fixed. It is also worth noting that ANY issues Vista has leads to a report being sent to Microsoft, so any issues should soon be fixed... hopefully crabby PS: Still no net |

| In most respects, what has been said is correct. Buying a PC with Vista installed can be the best route esp for a novice user. Few(er) driver issues and less hassle overall. It's often awkward SOB's like myself, building and upgrading thier own PC's who have more issues such as a motherboard replacement and "dying" hard disks...ahem... One word of caution. The salesman in the department store. Make sure he knows what he's talking about. Usually they don't as training is so poor as to be non-existant. I should know, I used to be one of these salesman for St... well lets say they're the worlds biggest office superstore. The training was terrible and all the management wanted us to do was push overpriced warranties in peoples faces.... You have to ask yourself a couple of Q's... Do you have a PC already running say, Win 2000 or XP? Is it good enough for your needs? Do you need a new / replacement PC? If so, then by all means, buy one with Vista, preferably Home Premium as a minimum as Home Basic aint too hot. Any "bugs" and issues are being tacked on a rolling basis and Vista just like XP receives continous updates on a regular basis. Many say wait for SP1, but SP1 may not happen. (See a prevvious post referring to this....). Hope this helps... |

| Last info and some of it is ??? since I can not VALIDATE the source, to be HONEST and TRUE... but they say Windows XP SP3 will be the final release for XP. then some where clost to December 2007, MS will announce, support for XP will be discontinued as for Jan or Mar 08... XP is over 6 yrs old... Another site had posted info on what Vista SP1 would look like and had over 100 items... This site also posted the EMail which MS sent and requested he remove the Unofficial Vista SP1 release....(IMHO) this means there will be a SP1 for Vista... I recommend buying, the best version of Vista you can BUY as Upgrade. (Much cheaper that way). You can clean install via the Upgrade Disk using NO KEY, then upgrade using the upgrade KEY.. (Works GREAT - I am using Ultimate that way.) From MS FAQ site: Why did my copy of Windows pass the Windows Validation Assistant validation process previously but now it fails? Our list of known invalid product keys is constantly being updated. It is possible that you are using an invalid product key that has recently been added to this list. Rumors are abound also that in the future, MS is "do something" about the in question OEM's that make many Non Pirate people Pirates. One rumor is the resellers will have to furnish all KEY's issued of in ? OEMs, so the buyers can for a small FEE have a Legal Vista Copy, another is the Resellers will be FINED, RUMORS some will be true and some will be false. What ever I recommend you "KEEP YOUR ORIGINAL RECEIPT" for which ever copy of Vista you own... Just found on MS FAQ: Quote:
