Hello, Just signed up here and I am hoping yall can help me. A few days ago I did a windows update and now all my program windows won't close or minimize or move. The X ticks and changes color but doesn't close the window. I am extremely aggravated by this. The only way to close anything is Alt-F4 and that is tiresome. I tried a restore point a few days before the install but that always fails at reboot. If anyone can help me it would be much appreciated. Thanks, Dustin |

| Rather than running the system restore from inside windows try doing it from the vista install disk restart your pc, boot from the vista disk select your language and on the next screen select "repair my computer" and then choose system restore and it may work. You might want to try a startup repair also, but that probably won't do any good. You can check for system file errors by opening a command prompt (as an administrator) and typing sfc /scannow and yes there is a space after the c and before the /. If there are any corrupt files windows will attempt to repair them and if they can't be repaired it will tell you at the end of the scan and give you the path of the log file so you can see what couldn't be repaired. If you know what update caused the problem you could simply uninstall it by going to control panel>programs>uninstall a program then choosing "view installed updates" from the left pane and then find and uninstall it. I hope this helps ![]() |

| Control Panel > Windows Update > Click Installed Updates (bottom left corner) > Click the update you want to uninstall > Take it from there.

| Well, I think the update is the likely problem. It doesn't give me the option to uninstall unless I do it really quick before the button disappears then it says that all the updates weren't installed correctly. It is update KB935509. Edit: I just read that this update is for Ultimate and Enterprise with Bitlocker. I have Home Premium. Thanks Last edited by mathias1223 : 01-13-2008 at 06:18 AM. Reason: Windows Update KB935509 |

| Arrrg! What to do? Hummm? I just replied to another that when I am in a tough spot I do a repair install of Vista. Maybe a repair install would ignore the update.

| I will try that. I will have to call up Microsoft and get a replacement disk though. I have no idea where my Vista install disk is. Last edited by mathias1223 : 01-13-2008 at 11:17 PM. Reason: Grammar |

| You will need to get a full install disk possibly. I think an upgrade disk may work, but I have never tried one. I would talk to MS.

| I have never ordered a disk from there. I was thinking that those disks could be had only if you had downloaded a purchase of Vista. Definitely not sure though.
