Cannot Access Shared Folder

I have a Desktop PC which is running Windows Vista Business. I have a folder being shared on it (with Everyone allowed)

File sharing is turned on, Password requirement is turned off.

I have two laptops. One Has Windows XP Home. It can see and access the shared folder on the Vista Business PC with no problems.

My other laptop has Windows Vista Home Premium. I need to access the shared folder on the Vista Business machine from this laptop. It can see the Vista Business machine, and it can see that it has a shared folder. However, when trying to access this shared folder from the Vista Home Prem laptop, it gives me an error message about not having permissions and that access is denied.

All 3 computers are in the same workgroup.

As it happens, the XP Home laptop has some shared folders. I AM able to see and access the shared folders on the XP laptop FROM the Vista laptop.

I am stumped. Does anyone have any ideas?

What firewall are you running other than native and if only native check the setting. I had a problem with ZA Pro had to let access in the security part of firewall for the computers to see on another. Plus check all you setting in network sharing.

Just the windows firewall.

But the thing is, the computers can See one another, it just cannot access that folder.

And the Vista laptop CAN access the XP shared folders, and even the Public shared folder on the Vista Business PC. It only cannot access that one specific shared folder that it NEEDS from the Vista Business PC. As such, I dont think it can be a firewall issue.

That one specific shared folder has its permissions set to "Everyone" yet I still cannot access the folder, not even read it. I can only see that the PC is sharing it.

Is it a folder or a drive that you are trying to share and have you tried resetting the permissions?

I had the same problem with my laptop which also has home premium. In the network and sharing center I had to turn on file sharing in order to access the shared files on my vista ultimate computer even though i wasnt sharing any files on my laptop. Hope it helps.

Your problem can be a nasty one since there doesn't seem like anything should be wrong. Try turning on password protected sharing on the Vista machine if what is mentioned above does not work. I have encountered this problem intermitently many times. It did not clear up until I installed SP1 on the problem computers.
