Hi there! I'm encountering a problem some days now....when I open the windows explorer, after I click the right mouse button on a file to make a selection from the menu, a message pops up saying "COM surrogate has stopped working" and it won't let me do anything before I close this window - I can't delete the file, I can't copy or move it.... this is getting very annoying, can you please help? my system is a INTEL 6300 2 Duo, 2 GB memory and I run vista home premium thank you ![]() |

| OK-OK-OK-OK-OOOOOOOOOOOOKKKKKKKKK!!!! I found the solution to this very annoying problem: it was that I'd installed a version of nero (7.5.9.0) that wasn't compatible with vista. I'll buy the newest version (7.7.5.1) that is compatible and I hope everything will be fine. I just wanted to inform you of this - it will be useful in case you confront this in the future. ![]() |

| Give this a try... Vista doesn't copme standard with every codec you need. If you have a lot of DIVX/XVID videos, or, in many cases, some certain .AVI files, you will get the comm Surrogate error. My suggestion is to get the Vista compatible XVIT/DIVX codec, and that may be the correct solution. Now, many are dead set against it, but I am using the KLite Mega Codec Pack now. During RC1 and RC2 times, I was using the FFDSHow Codec Pack. Now I know many are condemning about codec packs, but sometimes, it is easier than searching out each specific codec. Hope this helps |

| RESOLUTION There are a number of possible solutions to this problem, and the right solution depends greatly on what software is actually causing the problem. Some of the most well-known problem causing softwares are DivX and Nero, but there are others that cause the problem as well. 1. If you are using DivX, you should be upgraded to the very latest version (6.5+) 2. If you are using Nero, you can try upgrading to the latest version (7.7.5.1+) 3. If you’ve upgraded Nero and Divx and still have the problem, you can try renaming the file C:\Program Files\Common Files\Ahead\DSFilter\NeVideo.ax to NeVideo.ax.bak. You may also need to rename NeVideoHD.ax to NeVideoHD.bak 4. This will break Nero Showtime. 5. The ffdshow codec pack has been known to cause some problems, uninstall the same. Turning off Data Execution Prevention on dllhost.exe will also resolve the issue 1. Right click on Computer -> Properties -> Click Advanced system settings -> Agree to UAC -> Advanced tab -> Click settings under performance. 2. Click ‘Data Execution Prevention -> Click Turn on DEP for all programs and services except those I select. 3. Click on Add button -> then browse to C:\Windows\System32\dllhost.exe -> Click Open. 4. Now you should see COM Surrogate added in the list. Click Ok, Ok. 5. Restart the computer. Now you can browse Video folders/files without any problems.
