Please provide more specific information - what is "web connection icon"?

If you mean an icon and connection to IE then you would:
LC=Left Click mouse RC=Right Click mouse
Start - LC All Programs
Scroll to IE if necessary
RC IE mouse over Send To
mouse over Desktop (create shortcut) RC

OK, right click the icon on taskbar or in start menu ... check properties... go to its location.
rightclick that icon, make a shortcut... move the shortcut to your desktop or place in quick launch.. where ever you choose...

A question(s) here.
1. why? start - LC All programs - it should open when you run the mouse over it... NO CLICK IS NEEDED.
2. why? Scroll to IE if necessary - He already stated IE would not connect - probably due to not being set as DEFAULT Internet connection.
3. why? RC IE mouse over send to - since IE does not work why would you want to add another Icon to the desktop that does not work...

thanks again.
found the icon at Network and Sharing Centre>manage network connections and dragged it to desktop.
gonna set up a hotkey to connect instead of the five or six clicks it takes now.

Interested in exactly which ICON your dragged? or did you mean you opened "manage internet connections" then dragged the appropiate connection. and if YES, why you did not make a SHORTCUT instead.
and why does it take 5 or 6 clicks.
can you be more specific in this.... at the most it takes me 4.
1. open connection to device - since I can use 2 different one.
2. disable the device I do not want to use.
3. enable device I want to use Lan NIC or 56K HSPModem
4. click connect to Internet - normally by clicking the xx browser (shortcut) icon I want to use... or
are you counting
1. start
2. open control panel
3. open network sharing
4. open manage network connections
5. click appropiate device and say make default
6. click start the internet ...

is all this due to you have not removed the check mark in properties of that device which allows the device to shutdown to save power... and therefore you have to actually restart the device to
allow your browser to connect ...

Above is the original request for information - It looks to me that the user wants to put an icon for IE on their desktop - but to be sure I ask "Please provide more specific information - what is "web connection icon"?". It was at that point that the user revealed that they could not connect.

Regarding your item 2 - Do you see anywhere in the original post where the person stated that IE would not connect? I sure don't!!

Regarding your item 1 - Some of us have a lot of software on our computers and it may take longer than usual for the All Programs to open. If you left click the mouse, it opens right away, saving time. Do you know what the user has installed on their computer? I didn't think so!!

Regarding your item 3 - Same comment as your item 2.

It appears that you did not read the entire post (again)!! This is not the first time you have done this with your holier than thou attitude. But it is the last time you will do it to me. I'll be removing this forum from my watch list!!

I think it must be the time of the month for some people here

Jemw, there is no need to lose your temper.

For one thing, you have actually got emmemm's request wrong (he asked for the connection to be shortcut to the desktop not IE, the reason he wants it is because when he opens IE it doesnt automatically open the connection dialogue box).

Also Jemw, the number of programs will change how quickly the 'All Programs' section opens if you EITHER click or dont. The only time difference will be the delay in built into windows for hovering over something.

It is simply horrible to abuse a fellow member in the way you have.

Snuffy, I hope you can stay. The majority of us sincerely appreciate your input.

Finally, emmemm... if you go to tools, internet options, connections in IE then you can set the default connection. This way you wont require the shortcut as IE will automatically bring up the connection window when you open it.
