From his first post.

oh and I've tried HP support and they completely failed to help at all, very useless
If some one is a HP person maybe they can assist him with his problem... in my area the common fix is;
FORMAT and complete clean install... for all HP, Dell, Gateway, and others our Computer shop simply charges $99.00 plus tax and that is his STANDARD Answer and fix.

if for some reason something got corrupt or mixed, normally this will correct.
Vista installs DEFAULT signed drivers for the CD-DVD player..
Yes I tried that method, it was step 6 in this guide. Also regarding step 7, my system restore point is also broken as it doesn't fix the drive or crashes :\

I am still under warranty and have checked once before with the retailer that sold it to me, not very knowledgeable about such a problem (fair enough). Might have to go back and get a replacement drive or something :\

I've been wanting to format for a while, just I got a lot of important work and files on here now and I really don't want to have to manually install UT2k4 again as that was a pain in the backside. Also HP don't provide OS install discs or anything, and I don't know if formatting the HDD would lose the OS or anything? :\

If they do not provide you with a "hidden part" for restore, then something is wrong..I've heard of RIP OFFS from Stores, but (I do not like HP-Dell-Gateway) and many others, but every system I have worked on from them have either had a RESTORE partition or Disks.. That I do not understand. At the least there should be a coupon to send to manufacture to have the required "restore disk" sent to you... Acer did that for a while...thru Walmart.
