First, be sure that you have done all the available Windows (Vista) Updates. Then, try to find updated drivers for the things that don't work. I don't necessarily mean Vista drivers--just updated drivers.

Welcome monstermania4. Znod is correct, follow all that he suggested.

I also wanted to add that Vista should run Win XP drivers, but if not, you can run the driver in compatibility mode for Win XP or other windows version. Here's how:

1. Right-click the file
2. Select properties
3. Got to Compatibility tab
4. Check the box netx to "Run this program in compatibility mode for: and select the OS, e.g. Windows XP (service Pack 2).

Good luck.

Good point, and I sort of spaced out that he probably will not be able to get any additional Windows updates at this point.

Just as XP x64 had driver issues, so will Vista. The only hope is that the hardware mtgrs will take Vista x64 more seriously. 2007 is when the big shift from x86 to x64 is supposed to happen.

I have been using XP x64 for some time and some of the x64 driver issues are still not resolved. Also, when I contacted some of the manufacturers, they didn't seem to care about x64 drivers although they said they would when Vista comes out...

Compatibility mode usually will not work for driver issues....

I am still not using Vista x64 and all three of my desktops are 64 bit systems..

It took me a long time to get XP x64 to where I could use it on a daily basis..

Good point. Vista will aid the transition from x86 to x64 in a big way. If someone is in the market for a new computer, he/she should consider purchasing an x64 system, even if it'll cost a little more. I believe that support for x86 systems will diminish, while support for x64 will take off in a big way.

I have found also that compatibility mode on programs does not work very well either... Vista 5840 Ultimate. but some Generic drivers will ???

I think my software needs must be pretty much vanilla. I have never had the need to use compatibility mode. I feel inadequate. Admittedly, though I have continued to use a beta or so because the read deal would not play (e.g., Perfect Disk).

MonsterMania4... we need to know WHAT hardware isnt working otherwise we can't really help you, also (as others have pointed out) 64bit drivers are still few and far between so you could install Vista 32bit for the moment? Snuffy, the reason compatability mode DOES work while installing some drivers is so that the installation can have administartion rights to edit .sys files etc.
