I have come to the very easy conclusion that 3rd party drivers DO NOT belong in Vista. If the OS has them native, use them. Installing any drivers for any software you may have is a bad move. I have read many complaints on many forums about many driver issues and my statement stands true IMO. Give it a month for the gang to get their acts together, and a SP1 for Vista is most awaited on. It is a shame that Microsoft has YET AGAIN released a less than stable version of its OS. Above all it is a most awesome attempt and their best yet (since the stable v98C was indeed its greatest release) To date I have installed Vista many times and in many diferent formats and my conclusions have swayed to the fact that if you install extra "Drivers" you are possibly in for a rough ride! Cheers Ants

| I agree that what you say may turn out to be true. I have been lucky enough so far. Sometimes, of course, you just have to go with what's out there to have any chance at all.

| The issue with third party drivers is that if they are unsigned, there is always a chance that they might contain malware. This is one of the biggest security issues with Win XP and Microsoft doesn't want a repeat. Although I do think that SP1 will solve many drivers and software compatibility issues, I think it'll get tougher with third party unassigned drivers. As people look and find ways to install these drivers, Microsoft will patch these holes to prevent such actions from taking place. |

| Yes, I too too say never use non-Vista or non-manufactuer's drivers.

| IMHO 3rd Party drivers will always be needed... Since Win 95 I have had to use/find Drivers to work correctly in Windows.... Windows Beta Tester since Win95 thru Vista. 1. I have SCSI HD's and Vista does not support my Drivers.. I just lost 3 HD's and a DVD record/player. card is Promise ATA 100 and Maxtor Drivers (added by edit) 2. GeForce 7300GS drivers installed from MS made my NEW VIDEO card revert to 800x600 VGA.. No compatible... I had to Download and Install the newest v100.65 drivers from NVidia to get it working correctly. Quote:

| 3rd party, yes, if the 3rd party is the OEM for the device one is trying to get to work.

Hi to all, I have been looking at this site and am very impressed, lots of useful info. I have recently bought a new HP laptop with Vista pre installed and have encountered driver issues just like many others it would seem. (am shocked that thorough the testing of vista some of these issues werent resolved) Anyway, i have tried installing different items such as meadia card reader, USB Hub, HP printer and Memory stick all with the same result. "cant be installed" It goes through the process of looking for drivers but with no end result. Some of these such as the HP printer and memory stick have signed drivers. I have read on this site that there are driver issues with vista but cant see a resolution, If there is one that is. Also, for those that it effects, when i bought the laptop i tried as instructed to make a re boot CD incase of major sytem issues. When trying this, vista wouldnt make the boot CD claiming there was no partion installed. I contact HP support who explained this was a known programming issue and are sending me boot CDs in the post... Free of Charge!!! If anybody has some advice on the driver issues, please please help. |

| Must issues with drivers have been taken care of. Had you tried installing the drivers manually or providing Vista the path to drivers location? If you have not done so, go to the manufacture website and download the latest drivers for the hardware. If you cannot find a Vista driver, then use the latest Win XP driver...right the "setup" file > choose properties > go to the Compatibility tab > select Win XP SP2 compatibility. |
