Epson Perfection 1660 Photo Scanner

Has anyone had any luck getting these to operate in Vista?

I already had to replace a perfectly good printer when I bought the new computer (no serial port and I thought I was better off getting a new printer than trying to use one five years old). I would really like to salvage the scanner. I do not use it much but need it once and a while.

Help.

Thanks,

Chuck

There are no official Vista drivers.

HOWEVER!!! The XP TWAIN drivers work perfectly with Vista... simply download the executable and run it in windows XP compatability mode (Right click... properties... compatability).

Thanks for the response, crabby. I had actually downloaded and tried to install the XP drivers. It did not work. I went back to the Epson support page after I read your response a few days ago and they had posted Vista drivers for the scanner. I downloaded them and installed, still to no avail. No Smart Panel to control the scanner with. I emailed Epson support and they said that there was not yet a Smart Panel software that was supported in Vista.

Any other suggestions?

Thanks, Chuck

Well... if the drivers are installed then the scanner should work. What benefits did the smart panel give?

Check out this page for software replacements:

Some are even free!
