Error Upgrading/Clean Install from XP Pro to Ultimate

Hi, I have got the files from the DVD on my PC I open setup.exe and I can get through some of the installation until I get this message.

Windows could not update the computers boot configuration. Installation cannot proceed.

I've tried the PartMgr registry bit but it don't work.

Any ideas please.

Scott.

Installing Vista from a HD is a different ball game than installing it from the DVD. You might try this: http://11011.net/archives/000645.html

Is this what you tried? http://11011.net/archives/000673.html

1. Format the disk where you want Vista to be installed to NTFS.
2. Copy the boot and sources directory and the bootmgr file from the Vista DVD or Image to the root of the newly formatted disk.
3. Start a command prompt and issue the following commands - where x is the drive letter of the newly formatted disk.

x:
cd /boot
bootsect x:

4. Boot from the disk - Windows setup should load
5. Choose the Repair option - skip through the prompts until you can start a command prompt. Issue the following commands

c:
cd /boot
del bcd
bcdedit /createstore
cd ../sources
setup

Don't know what elese to tell you.

You may try booting from a USB drive:

1. Get ultra-fast USB 2.0 Flash Drive
2. Format the USB Flash Drive and type following commands: dikspart; select disk 1; clean; create partition primary; select partition 1; active; format fs=fat32; assign; exit.
3. Copy Windows Vista's DVD ROM content to the Flash Drive: xcopy d:\*.* /s/e/f e:\

I got this info from: http://kurtsh.spaces.live.com/blog/c...?wa=wsignin1.0

I have got the files from the DVD on my PC (Why?)
What is your partition. FAT32 or NTFS? your tryng to install to.
Make sure the Files, are on a different partition!
Make sure all the hidden files were copied.!
Make sue you have plenty of space on the "installed to partition".

DUH are you upgrading or Clean install? your title says (I am confused)

Partition is NTFS.
Files are on a different partition.
Copied all files direct from the ISO which I loaded in Daemon Tools.
I have enough space.
I would upgrade, But clean installed preferred but I get the same error no matter what.

Red face Dameon tools - ISO -

I have never used DAEMON tools, so can not attest to it or how it works.
But I have ripped many times from DVD to HDD, and installed Vista - correct edition per SN of person. or w/o key for 120 days test of Ultimate...
so you will have to have someone that knows VD's to assist...
or stick the DVD in and install properly that way....

My best guess apparently either your Daemon tools is not working correctly or your ISO is defective. None of my Downloads for Vista were in ISO format from MS..and the copies (legit-backups) I made from my DVD's were not in ISO format.
