1. Has anyone managed to overclock an nVidia card in vista? I used to overclock my 7900 GT in XP, but in vista, it doesn't seem to work. I've tried using coolbits (no luck), I tried using riva tuner (not supported). If anyone knows how to, it would be great. If not, I guess I'll have to mod my vid cards bios before I can actually overclock it... 2. When I'm in the compatibility tab of pretty much any exe, the box that allows me to always run the program as an administrator is greyed out. However, on the first day I install vista it wasen't. What did I do? How do I get this back to normal? Not that is a HUGE problem, it would just be nice to be able to select this option. 3. I've noticed a few people talking about how vista runs games better than XP. I've noticed the opposite (even on RC2). Am I missing something? Is there something I have to do before this becomes a reality? Any tips on making games run faster will be greatly appreciated. Hope I'm not being too annoying. Thanks for the help |

| OCing the card I would say you'll have to wait for awhile remember the OS is not even released yet. So alot of the programs that don't work now will not develop new versions that work with vista until after release. So just give it time. Why not just make your user an administrative acount? is it a home PC? are you the only one that uses it? I never setup my PCs with anything less than an administrative user. Also when you right click look at the first menu near the top there should be "Run as administrator" if it already has a sheild there then the program is already being run as an administrator. On mine that's when the other option is greyed out. Again with the gameplay I would say see if NVidia has any new drivers developed specifically for vista and how much RAM do you have? I've read that having alot of RAM makes a huge difference, vista is alot more graphic intensive than XP and will eat up alot more RAM.

| Thanks for the response, I was pretty much expecting what you said to be my response. I was pretty sure an OCing utility hasen't been released and won't be for sometime, but I heard that some ATI one works with vista, so I was just wondering if there is any Nvidia one that anyone has heard about. As for the administrator thing, I did make myself the administrator. So I guess theres no problem? My system handles vista very well, its a Core 2 Duo E6600 OC'd to 4.0 GHz, 2 gigs of OCZ DDR2-800 Platinum RAM, and a 7900 GT. It's not like games aren't playable or anything, it's just i sometimes get little bits of choppyness (especially in F.E.A.R. and Battlefiled 2). Other than that, I have no problems running games at a playable frame rate. Last edited by Tardbarn : 10-12-2006 at 06:39 PM. |

| You can use atitools (install as admin or it work work apparantly) to overclock nvidia cards... but I haven't tried it. I relation to games, my spec is: AMD 3.4+, 2GB RAM, Nvidia 7900GT and other stuff which doesnt really matter. In CoH I get 90 fps on lowest settings and 35 on highest settings (including full textures and AA). Havent been able to try it on XP though. crabby Last edited by crabby : 10-12-2006 at 07:48 PM. |

| Wow nice specs guys, Tardbarn I would think your PC would be eating the games alive. I'm having big troubles with mine so far but it's time to update my vidcard anyway.

| Yeah, it's kinda weird to be getting little hints of choppiness in some games with my specs. Hehe, I should have gotten a 7900 GTX, but that would have been a waste, sine I'm jumping on the 8800 series bandwagon the second it hits. Unless, of coarse, there end up being huge problems with the cards. |

| The problem obviously isn't with your specs but with the compatability between a beta operating system and a games not designed to run on it. An example I have is that RoL has really choppy sound. It's annoying, butit will be ironed out at some point I am sure crabby |
