Well had huge troubles with vista and my PC and haven't been on here in a long time. I finally sorted everything out, installed RC1 and found the site However now I have a new problem I loaded Call of Duty 2 yesterday and it wont run on Vista. It gives me some sort of Direct X error. I know vista comes with Direct X 10 and the game is calling for Direct X 9c. I searched and found a site that reported the game played fine without any problems??? So now I'm wondering should I install Direct X 9c? What are the repercussions? Anyone on here played any games in RC1 yet? Anyone play specifically Call of Duty 2? Did you have to load Direct X 9c??

Vista doesnt come with directX10... it will ship with it on release, but RC1 can be updated to DirectX10 if you want (I think). I am actually under the impression that RC1 ships with 9.0c so I would suggest installing it because it may be damaged. I have played LOADS of 9.0c games (hl2+CSsource, RoL, CoD2, Company of Heroes) and they dont just work fine they work BETTER than in XP! I didn't require to install dx9.0c to run them though.

More to the point you should install 9.0c. There are no conflicts between direct X versions so you should install anyone you think a game requires!

Install DX NOW and get playing the goodness!!!

OK thanks for the info I'll install 9c and 10 if I can find it. I know RC2 is out now but all the links I've gone to lead to RC1?? I've heard it's past the DL quota and I don't have a copy. I've also heard it was only for developers?

The only way I know of to get RC2 now is to grab a torrent... but they are quite fast so it isnt much hassle. I would recommend grabing RC2 as it will give a better experi.

Whoooooaaaa, how did you manage that?

I play CoH all the time, and I've noticed quite the performance dip in vista compared to XP. Did you have to mess around with anything before you managed this?

Hmmm... well I didnt change anything, and I am using native drivers for everything... havent played CoH in XP either so dont know if their is a difference. What fps do you get, I will do some tests of settings and get back with some results.

i used to get an average of about 80 FPS, now its about 15 FPS slower

Post both your system specs and videocard specs for the comparison. Vista is very graphic intensive and likes highend graphics cards I've noticed.

Good news I got home, loaded Direct X 9c and the game worked flawlessly. My vista index also shot up from a 1.0 to a 3.5 because I changed my vidcard back to my 9800XT from my 9600Pro. Now I have the popping windows, taskbar previews, 3D Flip yeahhhhh so far I might not mind reinstalling all my software if this keeps up LOL
