Help

I have had to re-install Vista recently and now several sites are giving me a message that I need either Flash 8 installed, or javascript turned on. I'm positive JavaScript is turned on, though I may be missing something somewhere. And as for Flash 8... I have tried to install it, things go well, then I reboot (as per instructions from adobe.com) and it hasn't installed at all.

Everything was fine before. Iz there a System Recovery option to take me back to what I had before?

In case i don't come back for a while, cuz good ol' college has just started up again, Thanks in advance.

Chabalym

Question

If Java is on, when a Java programs asks, you will see the JAVA icon in the tool bar, you will also be able to see JAVA in the Task manager, you can also see if you have Java active, start --> search type JAVA - the version I have is 6.0.20.6. and Flash is different... go here and get Vista Compatible Flash.... http://www.adobe.com/products/flashp...special/vista/

thank you Very much. I've installed a beta player, I hope it works. If that doesn't I will try the Active X control.

Vista has been a long and strange trip, but no matter to all that it's thrown at me, I like it way more than XP.

Though I have given a lot of thought to going back to Linux.

Just follow Snuffy instructions to fix your issue with Java. As for recovery option after a re-install there's no way at user level. Why did you have to reinstall in the first place?

troubles with incompatibility and programs that refused to leave my 'installed programs list' lead to the re-install. I never thought I would have to do such a thing as I have been a beta tester and such for a year before the 'official' release, but stuff happens.

Vista does have a few issues. Had you ever tried and in place (upgrade) install? In the majority of cases it repair issues without having to do a clean install. I does takes longer to complete, but maintain all programs and files.

I would have tried the upgrade install had I known about it, but because of school and such I haven't been able to keep up with vistababble. Mybad. I have the latest flash and it's working fine. I'm sure my prob now is that I can't get Java to turn on and stay that way.

I just reinstalled Java 6 from the Java site and the icon showed up in my system tray, but some things are not yet working. This isn't all life or death and such. Thank you all for the help. Maybe Flash just isn't working right, or something else is wrong. I'm sure the answer will pop up and hopefully be corrected soon.

Wink Brower Plugins.

Java and Flash Icons do not always show in the taskbar.
Make sure 1st if they are loaded or not....
Java and Flash are plugins for your browser, check tools, manage addons and then make sure they are ENABLED... ( find the item on the left side, click to see if enabled /disenabled....

Java is there and enabled, although Flash isn't there at all. I have tried installing Flash from adobe.com several times and every time it doesn't install correctly. I reboot and it's just not there. What I really don't get is that it was there before and working great.
