Wierd that you can't see the problem Usually task manager shows the issue up, and if it is svchost there are specific ways to troubleshoot it. Is your CPU underrunning? Put your power setting to high performance and see if that helps? Post a pic of your task manager when the issue occurs so we can see if there is anything sus... make sure to order it from highest to lowest CPU usage crabby

I had the same issue when I first installed Vista Home Premium x64, but it went away. There were two applications causing this issue; windows defrag and restore point. I can't tell you why this happened, but I found out by doing a little troubleshooting; I turned off both, restore point and defrag. Immediately everything went back to normal. When I turned both back on, the issue reappeared. I then let them run and the problem went away.

SVCHost.exe is the most likely cause, I have encountered this on numerous occasions not just on Vista, it is a problem well known on Windows XP and 2000, my mum lost a Windows installation because of SVChost. If I come across this problem I usually just backup my system, format and reinstall.# Believe it or not SVChost.exe taking up 100% of the processor can be caused by Windows Update. But it is most likely a trojan.

Check with Task Manager... and you can disable the svchost.exe at 100% easily, You can also check the applications running, then see which one stopped when you SHUTDOWN the 100% usage.. there by not loosing anything except the bad program ... normally tracing that way over 99.8% of all 100% CPU problems can be resolved ... better than FORMAT - Re install and then restoreing the problem ... from a backup.. many times the EASY way is not the BEST way. I do understand that today the majority of people (throw away and buy new) they do not want to (repair and/or made better).

Downloading patches I believe sometimes causes more problems than they are worth. But I guess it just goes down to personal experience. I also sometimes suggest uninstalling a program that you may think is causing the problem.

| Yes, wither you download all the patches .. which I recommend .. maybe cause I have been a Windows Beta Tester since Windows 95 .. and that is one thing you agreed too ... and downloading all the patches adds to the FUN of testing ... I feel that Windows is simply one continues beta test ... ![]() Quote:
