| hey guys, doing a report on upgrading to Vista for my college. thought i'd log on here to see what sort of bugs people have found so far because my college (Cal Poly, CA) is thinking of banning Vista for at least a year because of teh new OS worries. So my main question for you guys is, what major security flaws have people found so far? also, i'm still running RC1, so are people still having trouble with the start menu's most used program menu not working? mine wont launch a program that's been on there for more then one or two clicks. also happens when using the instant search when the program's on teh quicklauch area. well it's great to join an active comunity! | Eric, welcome to VBabble. I'll start by saying that you can't compare RC1 to the current version of Vista, or even RC2. Those bugs you've mentioned has been ironed out and, for the most part, Vista is running very smoothly. As for security, I don't think your school or any college institution should be concern about Vista's built-in security. Security in Vista is much more robust than in Win XP or NT, and while some applications like the built-in firewall are not user friendly, their default setup is good enough to protect any PC really well. Like any new system, there are going to be a few issues, and Vista is not the exception. Most issues with Vista have to do with drivers. Third party unassigned drivers are not welcome in Vista, and even some XP drivers will not work as well. But manufactures are producing Vista drivers at a fast rate, and soon driver issues will be uncommon. |
