Go to "Personalize." At the top left there is a link allowing you to choose your desktop icons. Choose the Recycle Bin and any others you want on your desktop. I choose them all because I spend a lot of time in each and seldomly use programs in full screen--which means I can see these icons, among others, most of the time.
