There's a huge possibility that the issue is not your computer or OS, but the broadband system. Your ISP should be able to test the system from their side all the way to the modem. Before you begin messing around with your computer, I would have your ISP perform a test. It's very simple for them to do and can pinpoint signal issues.

I used to have the one model above this and it didn't work all that well with Vista.

I recommend like felix said, contact your ISP and get them to test the modem and if that doesn't work they will probably give a newer one.

I had a similar problem with a D-Link router. I called support and they recommended I get a new one. I did, but experienced the same issue. I went back to the store and got another one, same brand and model because I did get a good deal. This time everything worked fine.

One more thing, routers or modems don't normally use cooling fans, so if there's a heat issue you can get a portable fan to blow air directly to it. If you notice an improvement using the fan to cool the modem, you can deduct that the modem is faulty.

I fully agree with the other answers. only thing left is have you ran the Diagnostics checker from Vista to have it test/repair the connection.
If yes, what did it say.... If No, you might run it.

Did you buy the Motorola surfboard 5220 modem or was it provided by your ISP? If it was provided by your ISP, or even if ti wasn't, they can hook up a different modem and try it. It's just that simple.

Very glad to hear that Its not VISTA as most people say.... when they are not smart enough to fix something, they blame incorrectly... Glad you found a GOOD TECH...
