Question Internet Explorer Crashing!

Not really had a lot of time to look into this to be honest. But for me Internet Explorer just will not load anymore.

Initially it ran absolutely fine with no problems at all, but having started loading other software (Photoshop CS2, Office 2007, Filemaker Pro etc) it just will not load at all (Program appears to start, then simply freezes before loading any site - it also hogs pretty much the whole processor power). I initially did a system restore and got it working again, until the next boot where the error re-occured.

Fortunately I am a Firefox convertee, so am happy without it anyway for the time being. But just thought I'd throw this out there and see if anyone else is experiencing any problems with it?

I'm sure it's conflicting with some other software, but until I have the time to explore I'll just have to deal with it..... Any one else?

I've only heard of one thing that could affect this - see here:

http://www.ie-vista.com/known_issues.html

In brief, did you do an upgrade to Vista from XP with an existing IE7 beta install? This could cause problems according to the advice - it states to not re-install/upgrade your Windows version while running IE7 beta.

Other than that, don't know. Sorry

Hi Sopaman
Thanks for your response. No I didn't upgrade, this was a clean install on a brand new system. But it sounds like there is some sort of bug there anyway if they've acknowledged another problem with upgrading it.

I challenged one of their techies at a partner conference in London yesterday who said he hadn't any knowledge of IE7 crashing in Vista beta 2, although he also went on to say through all compatibility testing they're doing with 3rd party software only 50% is ready as is to run, so any of the other software I have installed could currently be causing a conflict.

Looks like I need to uninstall 1 by 1 and see what's causing it.

Hello;
Please go gently - iTS my first post:
IE7 installed as the default browser on Vistas x86

I had severe problems with add-ins*
first Sun's Java add-in
then after I ran an install script from pcpitstop.

I have since disbale the add ins (with limited effect) and subsequently did a fresh re-install.
With nbo add-ins it works fine.

* By severe problems I mean the browser froze, followed by forced KILL and restart; and although the system didnt die - the browser really seems to HATE any add-in that I have installed not Microsoft authored.

Not sure what to say, TTL, except that there are many, many programs that won't yet be compatible with either Vista or IE7. Some may never be compatible, if the software vendor chooses not to make that happen. Others may have updates available now, or soon. About the only thing we can do, is keep checking with the individual software vendors to see if they have any upgrades or patches to make them work with Vista or IE7.

it's funny because I did an upgrade with IE beta 7 already installed in WinXP and my IE works tip top fine. My office 2003 which I had before the upgrade stopped working after so I got the office 2007 and did a fresh install but still office refuses to work. My brother running the other vista in the house has the office 2007 and it works but he said the shortcuts don't work you have to run the exe from the program directory so I will give that a try. I had two other peices of software not work this weekend but after I uninstalled and reinstalled them they work fine. So some progs if you had em before the ugrade take them out and reinstall and it might work. I would check the office to see if that causes the problem with IE7 since they are Microsoft they might have files shared between the two.

Well as reported before my IE7 is really giving me hell. I've tried uninstalling all software and add-ins on the System and yet IE7 still freezes when trying to launch it.

Any ideas if there is an uninstall/repair option for Internet Explorer 7? I've tried the conventional methods (including using Vista install disk) but there doesn't appear to be an option to remove/repair it. Unless I'm missing something

I wouldn't mind as I'm using Firefox, but it seems some of the other facilities depend on Internet Explorer working, Lol.

Haven't tried it in Vista, but when I needed to uninstall IE7 in XP, I had to go to Control Panel / Add or Remove Programs / and then check the box next to Show Updates (at the very top of the Add Remove Programs window). Unchecked, it didn't list IE7 - checked, it was listed. Might want to try that.

First thing I tried - but it's not listed sadly

There's not even a download for IE7 for beta 2 is there? Because it's already installed as standard, it seems they feel there's no reason to reinstall the software......

Try this (from http://msdn.microsoft.com/ie/release...default.aspx):

If you cannot find any Internet Explorer 7 entry in "Add or Remove Programs", run
%windir%\ie7beta3\spuninst\spuninst.exe. (To do this, you need to have "view hidden folders" enabled.)
