Lexmark printer keeps installing new software on boot

Lexmark 1200 series All-in-one printer was working fine with the new Vista driver pack supplied by Lexmark. All of a sudden, when computer is turned off and back on, it wants to re-install the software. It makes a copy(1) of the original. Now I have to uninstall the Lexmark 1200 Model x1240 and re-install the package from Lexmark-BUT I CAN'T TURN OFF THE COMPUTER OR I HAVE TO DO IT ALL AGAIN!! HELP!! Mark

Thanks!

Why can't you turn off the PC? Also, I went to Lexmark website and I cannot locate an All-In-One x1240.

Last week end I had to help upgrade to Vista... this guy also had a Lexmark Printer.
The original CD install disk had only DRIVERS upto XP SP2... I went to the Official Lexmark site and DL'd and installed the NEW Vista Approved Driver...

Bam No more problems...

Thank Mustangman76 for the explanation of why he didn't want to turn the PC off.

Judging from the issue, it appears that the software has been downloaded from the Lexmark website, but I could be wrong. Why not uninstall the software completely and let window install the driver.

Before I had to download the drivers for my Epson CX6600 all-in-one printer, both, under XP and Vista. But the last time I reinstalled Vista 64-bit edition, it recognized and installed the printer, including the scanner.

Seem that Lexmark & other printers made by Lexmark sold under other names. HAS A MAJOR PROBLEM WITH VISTA.. Dell, HP and Lexmark are working HARD to find a FIX.
Several others (different forums) state they were able to use drivers from Dell or HP for there Printers that looks exactly like there Lexmark... some also claim the MS Default Vista drivers are working for SOME Lexmark Printers.

Also recommended DO NOT USE XP Compatibility

Now I better call the customer and see if the Lexmark is still working.... Grrrrrrrrrrrrr
