Well it looks like I'm either going to try dual boot or just put my XP image back on my PC. So far now I'm having problems playing COD2, with my 9800XT the game runs fine but once I put my 9600Pro in the game wont run. I need to use the 9600 because there is some problem using my 9800XT so I can't use it until I figure out the problem. Now I installed Post-It notes lite and I can't access to the Documents and Settings folder even though my user is in the administrative group

| If you want to get into Admin mode, type control userpasswords2 in the run box. Go Advanced/Advanced/Users Click Administrator and enable the account. When you reboot you will have the option to log in as Administrator. Documents and Settings directory is there for compatibility with "Previous versions and should be left alone. The new documents folders in is in Users/Administrator (or your account) and Documents. |

| Thank you so much for the info. The reason I need to get into Documents and Settings is I install Postit software which had to be switched into XP compatability mode. I need to put my data file back in the spot that the software picks it up so I can get my post it notes back on the desktop. Even in user mode I don't have access to my own user folder either only docs, pics, etc. but the windows folders no access.

| Any reason why you dont use the postit gadget which comes with vista? The access rights seem buggered, I would probably suggest a reinstall crabby |

| Yeah since I installed I felt like the permissions were all crappy but you know how it is it didn't bother anything I was doing so I just let it go. What is the vista notes thing? does it stick on your desktop? I will try it for sure if it has the same functionality. Has anyone used any nero versions on vista??? on beta2 my 7 never worked but six worked fine so I might see if this version has the same outcome.

| I'll give the notes a try and see how I like it. I already took Nero 7 out so I'm probably just going to put 6 in and be done with it for now. I am having trouble with my COD2 tho so I'm sort of at a crossroads, I want to keep vista but if I can't play my games then it's gotta go ???

| Hi again Vista Noob. I posted two documents in, I believe, the Vista Tips section. They were called Tune up Vista, or something like that. One was for the earlier Vista Betas, and the latter for RC2. If you follow them through, they will entirely eliminate the Administrative restrictions. If you still get stuck with the odd Directory/file which you cannot access, the latter document tells you how to "take ownership" (If you don't already know?) I have run, as most of us have, XP for many years, as the Administrator. I have had anti spyware and anti-virus programs running in the background. I have never had a virus disaster from which I could not recover. However, if you follow the tips mentioned, please be aware that you are more exposed to the attacks. MS's major claim for Vista is the improved security. If it doesn't bother you - live with it. By the way, you can put a folder or file anywhere you like and point your programs to it P.S. Crabby - try Ashampoo burning Studio 6 - its great. Last edited by Davehc : 10-18-2006 at 02:54 PM. |
