Well I very rarely get a blue screen using MS like I hear alot of people do. But this time I got majorly screwed. I was trying to load a avi in quicktime and it locked up. I tried alt/del/cntr and then I got a blue screen. On the system check it gave an error .can not detect IDE HDD. I was using 2 sata in raid at the time. First thing I thought was the raid set up was the problem since I never found driver for vista raid and I was curious that it worked ok. I think I changed everything back to non raid but not quite sure as I am not that good when getting too much into the mechanics of computers. I still get the message and will not go much further then system (bios) check. The bios detects that there arr Hdd but when I go to do a vista repair with the disc it does not detect hdd. any advice |

| set your hard drives up as they were when you installed vista and all should work ok then.. if not you can boot from the dvd and it should see your windows install then.. if it dont then you may need to get your vista raid drivers and reinstall windows and give windows those drivers at setup Hope that helps you.. |

| actually I never used raid drivers. there havnt been any released for my MB as yet. Also I tried detecting with vista install and basically doesnt detect any hdd at all. I have tried both with raid setup and without. At the moment I would be happy with a clean install without raid as I only had vista going for 1 week. so I wont lose much. |

1. Reboot and press F8 to launch Vista in safe mode. Enter C:WindowsSystem32 strui.exe in the command prompt. or 2. Boot from Vista's DVD, then click next following the “Windows is loading files” process, but do not install Vista. In the lower left corner of the screen click on “Repair your computer.” Select the Vista operating system you want to restore, click next and then choose “System Restore.” |

| Thanks, but I have tried that. I get to the point where it says choose OS and nothing is there. So at the bottom it says if nothing is there to load drivers for you hard discs. and gives a button that says load drivers which goes to browse folders. I have no idea what to look for from this point |

| I don't think you have a choice at this point but do do a clean reinstall.

| While trying to install clean it does not recognise any hdd. again asks to browse for drivers. If I click on c: it ask to format it. I am thinking to change it from raid to sata then format and do clean install. This makes me a bit unhappy because I havnt really found the cause just formatted and started again. Nothing to say it wont happen again |

| Double ouch. Maybe you need to try starting over with XP, and, if you can, then move forward from that point to however you want things set up.

| Well, my guess is there was a conflict with the raid setup since I never installed drivers.(how it worked in first place I dont know) But anyway to fix the problem I booted from vista cd and went to vista command window and went to diskpart after running all the tests. I had to format and repartition and reinstalled vista. If anyone know of any other reasons tis could have occurred please post. Only other thing I could think was responsible was quicktime. Maybe steve getting back at bill for the ipod. |
