Apart from telling us you have an old motherboard chipset that post hasn't helped either

As the fabled Zoidberg once said! 'I only help people who help themselves'

If you can twrite down the info that we need could you atleast use the snipping tool to take screenshots of:

1. The processes list by CPU usage in task manager
2. The disk tab in Reliability and Resource monitor

See posts 8 and 11... It isn't a hardware issue. Basically a process is working overtime in the background and you just have to find out what it is. Lots of things run in the background in Vista so I can't pluck the answer from the air.

How to fx the problem is 3 fold:

1. Find the problem process
2. Find which program is using the process
3. Delete, update, reinstall, edit the problem program.

felix8406 will become famous soon enough

1. You mentioned that your "PC is often at 100% CPU!". Tell us exactly how you determined this.

2. You also said the you "have Windows Vista Ultimate, 2GB of RAM, hardly any hard drive space, Gforce 7600GS graphics card". When you say "hardly any hard rive space", are you saying that your hard drive is full or that you hardly have anything in it?

3. Click Start > Control Panel > Under 'Programs' click "Uninstall a program" > From the list, tell us what programs you have installed.

You know that you should keep 15% of your hard drive free? Did you fin the process that is using the resources?

When the problem is occurring, just open up task manager... go to the process tab... select 'show processes from all users'... order the processes by CPU usage. If this doesn't show which is the culprit you can use the reliability and performance monitor to do the same thing with memory and hard drive usage.

Once you find the process we can try and fix things. If you don't then you are asking me to fix a problem which is a bit of a bottomless pit.
