Hey eveyone I am new here and joined because I just upgraded to Vista on my Dell Inspiron E1505 laptop and there is one thing I am wondering about. While my computer was on XP I used to always use the "Stand-By" mode, which apparently has been replaced by the "Sleep" mode. My Fn + Esc key still works to put the computer in sleep mode, but when I press the power button to make the computer return from sleep mode, the computer starts up and says it has shut down incorrectly, etc (like it had just been turned off and back on). I know that the computer has gone into sleep mode because the power light slowly blinks like it always has rather than just being off. Anyone know any way to solve this? What do you do to simply get the computer out of sleep mode? Any help is appreciated. |

| There does seem to be no reason for your issue within that Belarc report. All the hardware and software is fully Vista compatible. Felix has a great idea with the wake on option. Whilst you switch this on for Keyboard you may want to switch it off for network adapter etc. Post back crabby |

| Nothing exactly for this problem here, but I have just found a ??? strange ??? problem or quirk, while working on a laptop - WinME, and my system was "SHUT OFF", start --> > SHUTOFF. like I always have... i layed a pad on my keyboard and __wham bam it started. after several attempts ot find what. I found simply pressing the (printscreen sysRq)= wrong key, the key to test is Pause/Break button it will START my computer... No, it will not SHUT OFF but it sure does START. I also have Hibernate Off.- disabled. just another quirk or what I'm still trying to find how to enable/disable it.The switch.

| Thanks for the help guys but still not working, I changed it so that my power button makes the computer sleep, but still when I press it to bring it back from sleep it starts the computer up and says it has been shut down improperly, etc. Also, I went to the device manager and there is no Power Management tab for either my keyboard or mouse, see attached picutre. Any other ideas? |

| Being shut down incorrectly usually means that (xx program) was forced to shut down.(you can also have a program open like word-notepad-Office). by chance have you use any tweaks that are "fast shutdown" or such. several tweak sites, have offered many "MAKE VISTA FASTER TWEAKS". If you have used any of these.. suggest you remove every TWEAK you have entered... go back to default. this can be done with " Repair the Install" from DVD also suggest you try SFC /scannow to make sure you have NO CORRUPT SYSTEM FILES, you can also use UPGRADE your current OS.. this only corrects the OS and assists in removing all the BAD TWEAKS. Normally the TWEAKS also have you "TURNOFF RESTORE" - BAD MOVE, they also have you TURNOFF UAC - Another BAD MOVE>. Also notice that you have "INTEL" - many Intel devices/programs do not like TWEAKS... you also have conexant v.92 modem - Vista does not like it, but works with it..(I disabled mine) which removed the pctel boot error. Many Bluetooth devices had problems in BETA TESTing. and the only driver which worked for all during Beta Test was "Toshiba drivers".. once Toshiba BlueTooth drivers were installed... every BlueTooth device started working CORRECTLY. and beleive me the majority of BT Devices were not Toshiba. a couple of things to check that might help.
