| I've just upgraded my dell e1505 laptop from xp to vista home premium. Now the battery icon shows a red x with "no battery detected". When I unplug the power source it still runs off the battery. I looked in device manager and it appears to be working properly. How can I get the computer to acknowledge the battery and give me a proper reading of remaining life etc? Thanks |

| Assuming that the battery was detected when Win XP was installed, the most probable cause would be a BIOS issue...probably a driver. Turn on the PC and enter the BIOS setup and see if the battery is detected. If the battery is detected through the BIOS, then you need to update your BIOS. If it isn't detected by the BIOS, then the problem might be computer related, and not the software. By the way, I recommend a BIOS upgrade, if available, for any users who is upgrading to Vista. This might prevent issues during or after an upgrade. MS recommends users to download the latest drivers before upgrading...drivers are an important part in making sure your PC runs trouble free. |

| The manual will tell you how to enter the Bios. there are many way, from F2, F6, F11, Del to Ctrl+Del. the best way is Read your manual.. and if your not sure on HOW TO FLASH YOUR BIOS. I'd recommend you take it to a shop. If your not sure you can make the computer 100% DEAD. PS: Did you run the Vista advisor to see if your laptop was able to run Vista properly.??

| Like Snuffy said, you can use the manual that came with the PC, especially if you are not too much familiar with computers. Here are some suggestions: To enter your BIOS, restart your PC and enter F2 when the option comes up. The option will say "Press F2 to enter Setup" or something similar. As for updating your BIOS, use this link: http://support.dell.com/, once there, click "Drivers and downloads". Select the link "Choose by service tag", your service tag number should be listed on the bottom of your laptop. Look for the BIOS upgrade and follow the instructions. By the way, from the above link you can download a manual for your laptop, if you don't have one. |
