Hello! I just bought a new Compaq laptop less than a month ago. I already don't like Vista. I'll try to explain my problem as best as I can. And fyi-I don't know much about computers! This only seems to happen in the later afternoon; I'm not sure if this is a problem due to the fact it's been on ALL day long, or a server problem, or just Vista being stupid. With my Windows Mail-I'll hit the send/receive button, but the pop-up won't even appear. I can't open a new message or anything. With Internet Explorer, same thing. I can't open any sites. I even type an address in the toolbar, but nothing happens. Sometimes I can fix the problem by closing out my Email & IE, but that doesn't always correct the problem. Sometimes I have to restart my computer. Thanks for any help! ![]() |

| Do you have the Vista DVD? If so, start windows, insert the DVD and run the setup. When prompted, select upgrade. You'll need the product ID. This process is similar to a repair install in Win XP. By the way, it could take a while for the whole process to complete. |

Have you checked to see if your network adapter is set to "Do Not allow the computer to shut down your NIC " you have to reboot to restart the adapter.

| You computer has the ability to shut down modems to conserve power and it can shutdown your LAN-NIC to conserve power. To check start --> control panel --> system --> device manager --> find an locate your network adapter -- check power management you can set they way you want... I have all my boxes unchecked.
