Boo, I know that this does not sound very scientific but the same thing happened to me and I just re-entered all the needed data for both sending and receiving. double check your settings too..

when you setup outlook instead of trying to read from the old pst file create a new one and import from the old pst file. Now before you do anything at all make sure you make a backup copy of the pst file on DVD or CD so you don't lose any data.

Should the pst file keep you from being able to check for new mail though?

It has been a while since I jacked around with PST files, but it seems like new mail should still be coming in.

What kind of feedback is outlook giving you when you check for mail?
