I have a WD 320 GB MyBook external USB 2.0 hard drive that I use to store media files and backups. I run it through a Belkin 5-port USB 2.0 hub and I also have to use a 6' USB 2.0 extension cable from the computer to the hub in order for it to reach. When I go to transfer files from the computer to the HDD or vice versa, I'm only getting a max of about 12 MB/sec, which seems extremely low to me. What might my problem be? Does Vista have a problem with mass transfer through a hub? |

| First thing I would do is to remove the extension to take it out of the equation. If nothing changes, I would connect MyBook directly to the PC to isolate the hub. If tha still doesn't change anythin, I would connect the drive to another computer, if possible. I've been using an external HD connected to the USB port through a board that used to be part of a HD enclosure and it works well, so I doubt the problem is with Vista, but I could be wrong.

| First thing is Verify what your HD is running at in reference to USB. then verify your on a USB 2.0 port. Reason is you state USB 2.0 but the speeds your talking about are USB 1.1 speeds. USB 1.1 allowed a maximum transfer rate of 12Mbits/second. It is now obsolete, but both of its speeds (1.5Mbps & 12Mbps) are being adopted into USB 2.0, ... Some computers have both USB 1.1 and USB 2.0 ports.
