i'm having a problem with the offline help in vista. Instead of pictures its only showing the red crosses, like it couldn't find the picture. The same goes for my Sidebar and the gadgets who needs Pictures. I have looked araound for a solution to the problem and came across a .reg file that seem to have fixed this problem for a couple users but it does zip in my case. Still teh same problem. Does anybode got a clue on what to look for? |

| Welcome to VB... eijnok. How for your problem, please be more specific I really do not understand...your RED X problem. RED X can be related to you have it clicked in EMAIL not to load pictures or other related stuff. What does the .lnk show when you RightClick the RED X...and show properties. It could be a bad lnk or shortcut. what was the .reg entry that fixed other ppls..problem post a pic to show exactly what you have..

| Thank you for the welcome. The red X is just as you mentioned the same as it cant find the pictures. I did not have this problem from the start, and it may be someting that i have done. I just cant figure out what that could be. The .reg file that i mentioned, was posted on another forum, and solved the problem that i have for the person requesting help, but as i said, that didnt work for me. The reg file is very simple and just contains this. Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00 [HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\.png] "Content Type"="image/png" Im adding 2 Pictuers of the problem, one is from the starting page of the offline help, and the other is of two gadgets using pictures, as you can se the same problem occurs for both applications. Im running vist in swedish so you may not understand the language. |

| try this.. start --> type .png select one from the list... open , see what is the default program to open with... if not explorer.. which needs to see it, you can right click open with.... browse to find iexplorer - make sure always open with is checked... this make sure that Explorer will always open .png other will also, but the default is set to IE. let me know then try open control panel -> default programs -> make sure .png is default to Windows Photo Gallery

| When i try to open the .png file in IE it just wants me to download it instead of showing me the picture, doing the same in firefox shows me the picture. I reset the settings for IE and now it comes up as if it wants to show the picture, but im getting re same Red X error for the image there. **Edit** I tested browsing in IE instead of Firefox that i normaly use, and i cant look att .png files at all. They all come upp as red crosses as with the offline help and the sidebar. I did a image search on google and on Live.com, and i get to se the previews, probably because live and google generates previews in jpeg or other format, but when i want to se the picture on the real page its just the red cross. | Now that actually sounds like a corruption in IE... I'd remove IE and reinstall.. (have one a few occasions) I have found that IE and FireFox can not work together... Sometimes REMOVAL of Firefox and a reboot fixes, others times you have to reinstall/repair IE. Reference this site for assistance: http://www.ie-vista.com/known_issues.html please understand reboot 2 times in the instructions. Thanks to Microsoft MVP..
