A Problem... What, I dont know!

Right... when using xp all would be going fine and then.... windows would just fall over and id have to reboot. Xp would keep going for days or hours and BAM it just dies on me.. all goes slow as hell and i mean so slow, if i press the start button on my keyboard it takes a good few mins for the start menu to popup!!! I belive this is a HDD problem...

Right.. so, i boot into vista and do a virus scan from there (since xp keeps falling over) and it scaned the vista partition ok and then it scaned the xp partition.... BAM! now vista is falling over on me... so i tried a chkdsk on the xp partition but... no dice.. vista/dos also falls over on me!

I downloaded PoweMax from maxtor to try and scan my drive with that for problems but when its trying to find maxtor drives that also just falls over one me

The event viewer in vista shows no problems... but the xp event viewer tells me that there was an error during a paging operation (Disk) ... witch means nothing to me...

So i cant scan the drive in anyway, shape or form.... as long as i dont touch the xp partition things are fine but if i do theres a chance windows will just die on me..

Im out of ideas on things to try so i can find out whats wrong!

Try ... I think it's called HDD life and go for the trial to get all the features that will help to see if the HD is dieing PS I don't know if it works with Vista so if you can try it on XP.

Also if you need help finding/downloading the prog just ask.

Your symptoms are NOT characteristic of hard drive problems... next time it happens go to task manager and check you RAM and CPU usuage... sounds like either a memory hole, or some sort of malware etc.

Lol... well, if your RAM is dying that would easily explain those symtoms yank it out!!! If it is bust, I would suggest a paired set of heatsinked DIMMs for best performance

LOL... i just got of the phone with kingston TS in the USA.. guy said it sound like theres a bad sector in one of the ram chips...

he said to confirm put your ram under a lot of stress and if its a dead/dying ram stick youll get a BSOD... so i did just that.. but no dice.. system stayed nice and stable... with cpu usage at 100%,Page file at 99% (1.971Gb used of 2gb) and a few kb of ram free!!!

Neeee my blue tac must be holding well then lol

God ol pc!
