Problems connecting Vista to Tiscali

I usually use Windows XP for my Internet partition but I decided to try Vista instead this time.

The problem is when I insert the disk to load the DSL drivers, it is a SAGEM F@st 800 usb WAN adapter. When I use the installation disk in Vista a screen come up telling me to insert the USB cable for the Internet, after inserting the USB cable the screen sticks for ages and ages and doesn't go anywhere.

Just for the record I also tried setting the connection up manually with my username and password.

Was this always an issue or the problem just began? Th reason I asked is that yesterday I completed a clean installation of Vista Home Premium on a customer PC, including all updates. This morning I tried to complete the installation of a Brother Multifunction printer, including software and drivers. I downloaded and began the installation, but it would hang. This happen several times.

I restore the system to where the last five set of updates were installed and that fixed the issue. I then reinstalled the Visa updates one at a time and so far everything is running fine.

This is the second time it has happened, first time I blue screened my PC when I took out the USB cable of the WAN adapter during the process.

Vista has a USB problem. This fact has been noted/documented many times on the MS Site & MS forums .. unplugging any USB device that is not HOTSWAPABLE can cause problems, your MODEM is working-talking constantly with your computer, you unplug it, with out first asking Vista to stop the access, I'm sure it should cause some error.

PS: This USB problems goes way back, before Windows XP so I'd say for at least 10 to 12 years..if not longer.

Same thing happens with my 2Wire USB wireless adapter. It works fine, unless I unplug it. But, like Snuffy just mentioned, there's nothing that 2Wire can do about it since it's a Vista issue. That doesn't happen on my wife's XP PC though.
