Hi guys!!! First post here so I hope it gets us talking!!! I'm sure by now you are all using the latest edition of vista beta?? (I am on build 5384 if that helps) My hardware is: AMD Athlon 64 3500+, Gigabyte K8SCN-939, 2GB RAM, ATI Radeon 9800 pro, Seagate 60GB hard drive, Samsung 250 GB hard drive. All are working optimally under vista. The bugs I have found so far are as follows; Media Center wont complete a tv scan with my Hauppauge WinTV-Nova-USB2. It gets to a random point in the scanning procedure having found between 6 and 60 channels, then blue screens, memory dumps and reboots. Windows explorer (including explorer within all applications) has an issue where it takes a long time to show VIDEO files (all other files are fine). So long in fact that Vista presumes a fault and closes the application. Means that the only video file I have been able to see is the apollo 13 clip in Media Center (which works fine btw). Last one for the moment is the fact that start up programs like Logitech Setpoint take a LONG time to load. Any help appreciated crabby |

crabby! I don't have those particular problems, so I can't help, but if anyone out there has them, they'll hopefully respond. This would be a good thread to compile a list of everyone's individual problems. A generic response for all problems would be: 1. For hardware issues, check the hardware manufacturer's site for updated drivers. 2. For software issues, check the software manufacturer's site for software updates. 3. For either, if the manufacturer has a forum, check for any workarounds until they do come out with an update.

| Crabby, I did some digging and found this info: It's the Data Execution Protection that causes explorer to crash with thumbnails and or opening videos and images. Go to Start > Run > Control Panel > System > Advanced > Performance Settings > Data Execution Protection. Turn on Data Execution Protection except for programs listed below, and check windows explorer. Hope that helps.

| That almost basically worked!!! It now allows enough to be made so that it only takes 2 attempts for 24 files, which is good enough for the moment On another note, vista crashed yesterday, and I noticed that if you get the 'safe mode' screen up... you can't use a USB keyboard, has to be PS2 So theres another bug for the book :P crabby |

Not an OS available I haven't used! And I own 4 different computers with an average of four OS installs each! I've just been using Both the 64bit Vista and the 32bit version for alittle over three weeks. And the 64bit version needs some real help before they release it. Vista 32 is cruzing along except for burping at Flash pages and some minor software install issues. A4Tech 750 2500dpi Game mouse profile setup won't run on either install. I used to have problems with USB mice and keyboards with Linux on a regular basis, especially on certain computer setups with certain buggy Motherboards (Albatron K8x800 Pro II) and older USB keyboards. When going into safe mode or in linux boot sequence, bam same thing happened to me. So your problem could be either the "Keyboard" your using or posibly you could flash the bios of your motherboard and fix the problem. Make sure you have USB mouse and keyboard enabled in your MB bios. That Albatron has been a nightmare and those Tawanese don't bother maintaining the VIA chipset drivers. It loses it's setting all the time. Plus I used to overclock it, but now I don't, been losing too many corrupted files when it crashes then. Chances are though, that if you use a different USB keyboard it will work! Or you can do what I do (hehe) keep one of each type connected! As I said I haven't heard of anyone's dropping connection or not installing in Safe Mode with Vista. ![]() |
