| Bought a new computer in january with vista x64 on it which is fine . One problem that I do have is that the recycle bin has nothing showing in it . Example I delete a file, picture etc. computer says do you want to send to recycle bin I say yes but when I look in the folder using the desktop icon the folder contents show empty if I click on empty recycle bin the computer starts to delete contents permantly. Does anyone know why this is happening? Suggestions from other people include installing service pack 1 and refreshing the desktop, done these no effect. Any other suggestions would be much appreciated. Many thanks for your time. |

| Welcome. The "delete permanently" response is normal--if something is in the bin. It looks as though your recycle bin has contents that just don't show up. Try right clicking on the bin and selecting properties. See if the second item is selected and if unselecting it will take care of the issue.

| Thanks for such a quick reply. Looked at the properties in desktop icon for the bin, shows 3 locations for deleting to the bin " c,f,& d drives" giving different sizes of space available, then underneath is the "delete files immediately button" which isn't ticked. are there any other buttons on the computer that could affecting the recycle bin contents being unviewable,or could you tell me where the recycle bin folders are kept on the computer. Once again thanks for your time and trouble. |

| All you could try is repairing statup and system restore. Repairing startup might, but probably won't fix it. System restore (from disk or machine) won't fix it unless you go back to before the problem started. I assumed you did not want to do so.

Right click on the desktop> choose Personalize> left panel, click Change Desktop Icons> click Recycle Bin(full), click Change Icon> again click Recycle Bin(full), click OK> click Recycle Bin(empty),Change Icon> again click Recycle Bin(empty),click OK > click APPLY, then OK. If this works, when you've deleted something, your recycle bin icon will show full, and if you emptied the content, you'll hear a sound, and the bin is now empty. Does it work ? |
