| The first question is whether you have any other icons on your desktop. If you don't you might have 'Show desktop icons' unticked. To tick it simply right click on the desktop, go to 'Arrange I cons By' and tick Show desktop icons. If you do, then the recycle bin feature may be disabled. To enable it you need to... (not at a vista PC atm so can't go any further crabby |

| One issue with Vista's Recycle is that it can be deleted intentionally or unintentionally by simply right-clicking it and clicking the Delete button from the dropdown menu. To bring it back, simply right-click an empty area of your desktop, select Personalize, Change desktop icons and select it under Desktop icons. For Win XP, try this site: http://www.petri.co.il/delete_recycl...in_xp_2003.htm

| Concerning Vista, I personaly think MS made the recycle bin too easy to delete. I've done it at least three times, without even thinking about it. You get on the automatic-rush mode and instead of selecting to empty the trash, you hit the delete button instead. And if you have your mouse pointer to automatically move to the defualt button in the dialog box, just like magic, your recycle bin is gone. There are various ways to remedie this though: 1. Select not to move files to the recycle bin and delete them immediately (I don't recommend this though) 2. Reduce the amount of storage allocated to the recycle bin, if storage is your concern. 3. Press and hold down the shift key while deleting the file. This will delete the file without moving it to the recycle bin.
