Your desktop should be upgradeable. What sorts of slots do you have--e.g., PCI-Express?

Yes exactly, PCI. I see that the Creative Sound Blaster X-Fi Xtreme works for Vista, and there are drivers available, so thats what Im probably going to get. For the graphics card, Im probably getting the Radeon X1300 256 MB PCI Graphics Card. And along with 1 GB of RAM, I should be all set.

felix8406 will become famous soon enough

Tony, make sure you get the right card by making sure you have an available a PCI slot...not PCIe. There's a difference as the cards are not compatible.

Talk about great help! You guys are fantastic!

Yes, I checked and the card is indeed PCI, and not PCIe. I ordered all the items, and will be sure to let you all know how it goes.

Again, thanks for being there and guiding me along!

Update...

I received my Creative Sound Blaster X-Fi Xtreme and installed it, updated the driver...and I have surround again!!!!! What a sweet sound!

On another note, I receive my Radeon X1300 256 MB PCI Graphics Card, and installed it, but I am having some driver problems due to lack of resources. Im hoping this is because I havent receive and installed my RAM as of yet.

More to come.

I receive my RAM, installed my X1300 PCI card, and now I receive the following error message "This device cannot find enough free resources that it can use. (Code 12)" How do I fix this?

Those issues are usually due to a lack of motherboard resources... to fix it... remove something If you check the properties of the graphics card it will show you what resources it needs... then you just remove a device which is using them.

I have had this issue once... on an old PC with AGP... I put a 9800 pro on it and it was WAAAAAY too much for it to handle... had to remove a modem to free the resources required.

Also, are you saying disable or delete hardware?

And, in the BIOS after I reset the memory, the AGP is set to 128mb. Should this be lowered since I am using a PCI slot? Will it have any effect?
