| Thanks for the replies. Snuffy, Sorry to mislead you. All avi files, as well as mpgs, are playing just fine in WMP11. WMP11 is (and has been) the default player and it is set to automatically download codecs. This problem is only with the "thumbnail view" option in Explorer. Some avi files are showing an icon rather than the thumbnail of that video file. Other avi files and all mpgs are displaying the thumbnails properly. After reading your reply, I wanted to test out the non-compat codec theory and I think you might be on the right track. I loaded the software for my new dv camera (vista ready) and captured a few avi files. The thumbnails for these new files are popping right up, some of the other (older) avi files are still only showing the icon. The Rundll32 error is a seperate problem, but quite possibly related. It happens as I enter a folder in Explorer that is set up for thumbnail view. As each thumbnail generates (or tries to) an error appears. At the end of the page when the thumbnails stop, the errors stop. When I page or scroll down, more errors begin appearing again. The reason I think it might be a different problem is because the error appears for all files, regardless if you see the thumbnail or the picture of the icon. It's almost as if the thumbs.db file is choking and bombing out the Rundll32 file. Just a thought. What do you think? I searched for and found the lmpgspl.ax file that Jen referred to. I also found where it was located in the registry. I'm just not sure how to un-register it. Can you advise or point me to the procedures? Thanks again! |

Rundll32.exe has stopped running error. This is caused by Vista whenever it sees what it perceives as a threat to your computer it stops the program from running. This feature is call Data Execution Prevention. To solve rundll32.exe has stopped working and other program stop errors in Vista do the following. Go to Control Panel Click System and Maintenance Click System in right pane Click advanced System Settings in left pane Under performance click Settings button Click Data Execution Prevention tab Click on second small button that says Turn on DEP for all programs and services except those I select Click the add button and choose the things you want DEP to ignore. Then once you have them all selected Click Apply I did this and it fixed all the run stop errors and I have seen no ill effects from this. |
