I am currently running Windows Vista Home Premium edition. When I access MPEG video files in the videos folder, the above message appears numerous times. I have heard that maybe Nero 6 is possibly causing the problem and what can I do to maybe solve the problem, because I use Nero all the time and couldn't be without it. |

| It's caused by a program, but that doesn't necessarily means that it's Nero. Runddll32 runs dll's as program, so it could be many of the DLL's. If you think it's Nero, and you have a copy of Nero, uninstall it and see if that crorrects the problem. You may have to do this with other programs as well until you find the problem. |

| Nero 6 works in Vista but has compatibility issues... Nero 7.x is Vista rated... check the Nero site for more accurate details.

1. right-clicking on its installer and selecting Run this program as administrator and subsequently 2. right-clicking the program's shortcut or EXE and applying the Windows XP SP2 compatibility mode using the Compatibility tab.

I am having the same problem with Rundll32.exe stopping, but it is not being caused by Nero. I don't even have Nero on this machine. The error was appearing straight out of the box. I launch Windows Explorer and navigate to my videos folders. The error appears as the thumbnails are being generated. In folders where I have multiple videos, I will get an equal amount of errors. If I do not close the error message as they appear, I could have 20 or 30 errors on my screen at once! This does not happen while generating thumbnails for picture files, nor when the folder view is set to 'details' or 'list' views. The thumbnails for .mpg files do still appear and the video files work fine despite the error messages. On a similar note, .avi files do not generate thumbnails at all. They only show the default windows video file icon w/ AVI at the bottom. These files also work fine when launched. Does anyone have any ideas? Thanks. |

| Do you have Explorer set as default to open .avi(s). ? It really should be default to WMP11, and have WMP11 check for download all codecs automatically.... try and open WMP11 first then open the avi and see if it plays. If WMP11 is not what you like or want to use... the DL and install WMP10 which works very well also...

also some divx codes in older avi's are not vista compatible... GSpot is recommended to test and see if you have the required codec installed. and sherlock is recommended for checking codecs, and divxfix to help fix corrupt avi files... they also mention most errors are NOT VISTA problems but 3rd party badly written codecs and programs..along with unsigned drivers...
