Go here:

http://support.acer-euro.com/drivers...k/as_5630.html

And check if you have updates for any of your drivers... esp check the chipset and bios.

Then email Acer and shout alot

some possible causes:
you have too many links on the desktop?
you have a USB Flash set wrong..corrupted.. removed without shutdown first.
you failed to FORMAT it, try a different one...
AERO is corrupt or you bypassed and set when AERO is not actually approved by the Video Settings.
Your full of SPYWARE...
Any drivers you need obtain from ACER.tw not UK or USA but TW...
Every driver from TW or MS Autoinstall on my ACER Laptop... I do not use the Acer.USA or Acer.UK sites at all....My Acer Home XP was upgraded to Vista Ultimate and has NO PROBLEMs... also if you would save the file next time as .txt and allow to download instead of posting here... I will have more time to look and see... your option... hope this helps..

It is all sorted now, thanks for the help guys! The errors are logged less frequently, and now because of avast and turning off the bulit-in wireless before shutting down, it now only takes about a min and a half. So thanks to everyone who posted their suggestions and ideas.

Hmmm.... it's still wrong in my opinion.

But if you are happy, and we are all stumped... there we go I would still check for an updated IDE driver.

Is there anything else I could do to make it shut down any quicker?
Now after doing some research on clearing the page file...I've realised that I have made a huge and stupid mistake.
Clearing the page file should only be done once every few months and only slows down the shutting down process a lot more than normal and looking through TweakVI settings..I found that it was clearing the page file everytime I wanted to shut down!

I thought that clearing the page file in the first place would fasten it up but only made it slower..and now that I've reintalled Vista and told TweakVI not to clear the page file everytime it shuts down...now shutting down only takes about 30 seconds.

Yes, I'm an idiot..but we all make mistakes.

Hey Hey Glad you figured that out.... my Acer is still in the 35 to 40 sec total shutdown.... but I have to work on the 1m40s startup... but I'm sure it is due to only 1G mem.

Ah Yes, for sure, all the ACER (addons) and the slowest is my Auto check, find, diagnose & logon the the BEST Wireless signal.. I can kick 12 to 15 sec off if I set my wireless to default.. and another 10 to 12 sec if I turn off, check and detect Blue Tooth. another 3 sec if I turn Bluetooth off via the pushbutton on the front.
