1st if ZNod's suggestion does not work... try this:
1. right click taskbar near the clock insure only quick launch is clicked.
2. close all open links in taskbar
3. right click (edited) in the quick launch and click view small icons
4. right click taskbar and click lock taskbar...
5. reboot

You get a slightly different list , depends on which you use the left side (quick launch) or right side normal task bar. Use taskbar to make sure (quick launch is to show). I did edit step 3.
