Hi, I'm having alot of trouble trying to download using utorrent... I think it's a problem with the vista set-up. At first, utorrent worked well, however, within a few hours it stopped working. I have previously tried using Azureus, which stopped working even faster. I have set up my firewall and security settings to allow utorrent through. The program tells me that my ports are not being forwarded, however, my housemate's utorrent also says his ports are not forwarded yet his computer is working fine. We are both connected to a university network but he has XP. Help! Louise.

Hiya! Basically, universities have very stringent FUPs which restrict the ports people can use. They only keep a few ports open like port 80 because that is the http: port. Therefore you should change your port to 80 to stand a chance of getting the port forwarded correctly. The reason your downloads are slow is because you are not getting credit for your uploads (due to the port forwarding issue) therefore, if port 80 is entirely unrestricted it should work To change to port 80 in utorrent go to options... network and manually enter 80 in to the port dialogue box. Then close and reopen utorrent. If you are still having issues (or want to say thanks crabby

Hi, Thanks for the help so far, but I'm afraid it still hasn't worked! Very confusing and annoying. I have even ensured port 80 is open through the firewall. As far as I'm aware no-one else in my house has had any of these kind of problems when downloading torrents. Louise.

You said in your first post that a housemate with XP has the same port forwarding issue? Now I am confused So basically, your downloads just stop... dead... after a certain period of time... even though your mates have exactly the same 'settings' on XP which continue to download?crabby Last edited by crabby : 07-04-2007 at 09:37 PM.

Could you and your friend start the same torrent at the same time and see what happens? utorrent has a nifty speed graph, make the scale hours so you dont have to keep watching the download then post the results/differences between the two computers. crabby
