I have Vista Business Installed with 2 GB of RAM and a 3.2 Mhz processor. While the OS is okay, it is terribly resource intensive and this has manifest itself into two persisting and annoying problems. Firstly, it seems like my hard drive light is constantly on or blinking. I have shut down nearly everything running in the background, from the GoogleToolbarUpdate to the Sidebar to my Lexmark printer monitor... to no avail. I can hear the HD running all the time. This is going to kill my hard drive. Although I have obviously installed other progs since the switch, tt has done this from day one, so I don't know if I can blame it on some driver or new prog. The second one is harder to explain/figure out. When i am typing emails, my keyboard will constantly "miss" a couple keys I hit while I am typing. This never happened with XP, but when I am typing on Vista (an e-mail, a document, a forum message), I'll constantly have letters missed. So if I am typing "I have a Vista problem," and type it without problem, it will come as "I ve a Vista prlem." It's almost like the system is doing something sporadic that causes it to ignore the keyboard, or prevent the keyboard input, or something goofy like that. I have to hoep that I'm not the only person in the world encountering this. I could also talk about how it takes longer to copy files between drives than XP ever did, or the annoyance of having to "approve" so many things I want to do, or if I turn off my external SATA drive Vista won't recognize it when I turn it back on without a reboot, or how if I switch between two MS Office 2007 docs I have a 5 second "pause" with the Vista "Busy" circle, or how when I click my volume control icon the slider appears but the "busy" circle just sits there for forever and I can't adjust my volume... But I'll leave those for another time. Thanks for reading. |

| Ok welcome to the site, with your first issue i would first try scanning for viruses and spyware. You can also try defragging your hard drive and do it regularly also do a disk cleanup from time to time, if that doesn't work download a program called Vista Manager witch allows you to clean up junk files, compact the registry and boost vista performance. With your other problem if your keyboard is wireless make sure the receiver is close to your keyboard and the battery's are charged. Also you can try visiting the website of your keyboard manufacturer to see if they have any special drivers or software. Hope this helps As for your other problems, lets see if we can help with these two first

| Thanks for the quick response. The HD issue has been from day one with a clean drive, so I'd be surprised if it were a spyware/virus issue. I also have two spyware scanners and Avast antivirus, so hopefully that helps, too. The keyboard is wired, which is the frustrating part. If it were wireless I'd definitely would have made that my first troubleshooting point. It's almost like it's busy doing something intensive and blocking my keyboard input in short imtermittent bursts. Never encountered it with XP. Thanks again. |

| Info on the HD is needed...speed, size, cache. Virus scanner AVAST (I use). Also there is very little HD lite blinking due to constant monitoring.. SATAII, 7200 rpm, 8MBcache, WD 80GB. with Resident Proptection running all the time. Your SATA external HD, all you need to do is "re populate it" by plug/unplug... You can also check via the "Event Viewer" to see if any program is giving you a WARNING or ERROR which might be causing you problem. Most AV scanners do not SCAN for or DETECT TROJANS... Several Trojans Scanners about that are FREE and work great with Vista.

| One possible reason for your HD continuing blinking (working) could be System Restore. I had the same issue when I first install Vista Home Premium on my desktop. I turned System Restore off and that stopped the HD constant grinding. The problem started again after I turned System Restore back on, but the issue stopped after a few days. |
