please refer to how I told to show all hidden files.

now The extra hard disk partition called Acer Data is included on the factory-loaded software to provide a method to restore the notebook to factory configurations. This method is called D2D Recovery and provides a different method to recovery your system if the Recovery or System CD's are not available.

The partition can be removed by using the System and Recovery CD's. However please note that if you choose to remove the partition, there is no way to restore the removed partition.

How to use D2D Recovery

Enter the BIOS by pressing the F2 key.
Using right arrow key, arrow over to Boot
Press F6 to move D2D Recovery to top position
Arrow over to Exit
Press Enter to Exit Saving Changes
Press Enter for Yes to save changes
The next screen shows:
"Acer Multi-Configuration Preload
Select the operating system you would like to install on your computer.
Windows Vista. (English)
Press Enter to select
The next screen shows:
"You selected the operating system listed below. Once your selection has been confirmed, the selected operating system will be installed.
Windows (English)
Press Enter

I have an Acer laptop.. if you poke around look for a program called eRecovery. That's actually a program which will take you back to the original factory settings (same as a format almost).
This is the normal way to access and restore... the MANUAL should also tell you how to do this....

some posts from folks that have Acer Desktops and Laptops.

My new Acer didn't come with any DVD's either. When Vista was fully installed, some Acer software asked me if I wanted to create a recovery CDs/DVD. I had the option of burning 6 CDs or 1 DVD.

From what I gather the reason(s) you don't get an installation CD/DVD is because:
1. It is cheaper and 2. It is an attempt to reduce Piracy, as the recovery CD/DVD will only work with that Desktop/Notebook.

I personally don't mind the idea, as it is very easy to burn and use the recovery CD/DVD

Just buy a couple of blank DVDs and burn a copy from the recovery partition. There is always a program that you can run from the factor image to burn the CD/DVDs in case your HDD dies
.
My Laptop (Snuffy's) came with RESTORE Disk included, also the Restore Image was included in a hidden folder..called DATA - I renamed my Folder RESTORE...

Gads, I restored my Acer Laptop back to orginal settings.
I pocked the E =eManager and restored.. to original settings.
Now to find the easy way to RESTORE Acer Laptop... mine has on the upper right side of the laptop next to the on/off switch I have a button marked "E",
that stands for eManager.. emanager is a direct link to c:\ACER\eManager
which when clicked brings up a GUI. with 3 options...
1. Acer ePresentation (Sort of a tutoral)
2. Acer eRecovery (allow me to full recovery to Original Settings)
3. Acer eSettings ( allows me to change different settings, sound, LCD Display.)

I do hope this helps all with a ACER computer.

Ok, so I did what you said about the showing hidden system folders and files but couldn't them on there..so I booted into the BIOS and looked on boot tab, I didn't get the option for the D2D Recovery, just my HDD and dvd drive, etc.

Ok, I'm a bit embrassed to say this, but...I found the eRecovery tool and used it to reset back to factory settings.

Plus, Vista took me to the acer support site where there was a update and patch for Windows Live Messenger saying that the "MSN Messenger File Transfer Encryption" feature in eDataSecurity, which causes a compatibility issue with Windows® Live™ Messenger 8.1.

So, it is all sorted now..thanks!
