| Ok couple things... 1. I cant seem to get the Network discovery back to just "ON" instead of custom 2. I'm still curios why it says "Unidentified Network" shouldnt I see my router's SSID name or just "Network" whats this unidentified thing... |

| I don't know about the "custom" thing; I have never encountered it. I have lost track of all, but are you in the same work group as your other computer? You generally need to be.

| You had so much trouble with your install I am thinking that a repair install might clean a bunch of things up. I have done an almost uncountable number of upgrade installs and repair installs. The process should be trouble free. But, of course, back up everything first. And, while it shouldn't be necessary, if, after beginning the repair install, Vista alerts you to any possible incompatibility, then I recommend aborting the install, uninstalling the offending program(s), and starting the repair install again.

| Don't give up; you are too close. Really. We can fix it eventually. OK, repair install = Reinstall Vista by starting up to Vista, inserting your Vista DVD, and running the installer from within Vista. I have never done a repair install with an upgrade key, but the worst thing that should happen is that this option will turn out to be unavailable.

Nope... I've given up... I've tried all I can try already. All the suggestions given here and on the other board was good but none work for my case... My probem doesnt look like its as simple as everyone pose it to be. Like "restart your computer" "update your driver" "your network is down" "move closer to your router" "restart your router" I know all that and I've done all that... I'm not your average Joe Blow Yogi Bear Computer user... but on the flip side I'm not an Expert either... but I do know how set up a normal working computer or even do a fair amount of troubleshooting... but I honestly beleive there's just somthing wrong with Vista... Especially if you read these threads... with people having a very similar problem with the beta versions. http://www.ntcompatible.com/Vista_Be...ms_t34193.html I need someone who has specifically encountered my problem before and managed to fix it to tell me what to do and that it can work... So as of this week I'll attend class w/out the internet and if I cant come up wiht a solution by the weekend I'm uninstalling it and putting my copy of vista up on ebay. |

| Oh, I forgot to mention.. I'm going to take my computer to class tomorrow and see if I can connect to their internet wirelessly or via Ethernet... I'll report back... but I have zero faith right now. Why? because I've tried wireless to my router... Ethernet to the router and even by passing the router and Directly pluging the ethernet cable from the laptop to the dsl modem and THAT still didnt work... |
