Hello after 4 tries I finally got Vista Home Premium upgrade to actually upgrade from XP Media Center but now I have a huge problem. I cannot connect to the internet. Via Wireless or Ethernet, I've even tried directlly connecting it to the DSL modem bypassing the router with no luck. I've tried countless settings and the drivers have been updated... I dont know what else to do. I've initially posted the question on the vista forums but no one seems to be able to help. I'm hoping someone here has encountered the same problem and can shed some light for me. I hope I can get the laptop back on the net soon as I need it for school. I would hate to have to re-install XP Media Edition all over again on it. Instead of typing everything out again here's the link documenting my problem with screen captures. http://thevistaforums.com/index.php?showtopic=10487 Further discussions can be discussed here. Thanks! P.S. I'm currently online with my desktop running XP Pro. |

| Hi and Welcome, when you view your network adapter in device manager is it coming up as being installed and working?

| I would ask you to check you network map to see if it shows the net? If you are connected through a router the 'Network and Sharing Center' should show Computer->Network->Internet. Does it? crabby |

Check out the second post on the second thread on this link: http://www.vistababble.com/forums/ot....html#post9556. And, read all the way through the thread. I'll be back in about 2 hours. Given where you are, I am not sure the link will help.

| Have you tried manually assigning your IP? Also... in the properties of your network adapter, have you turned off the 'power saving' feature? I also realise this may sound stupid but are you running retail or RTM? And have you updated fully? If it is your motherboard adapter... have you treid updating your mobo drivers? Some people say if you put the PC to sleep then wake it up the network works? crabby Last edited by crabby : 03-26-2007 at 10:01 PM. |

as far as retail or RTM? whats RTM? you mean boot leg? No its not boot legged... its the Express Upgrade. I bought my laptop End of Nov last year and part of the deal was that you get a free upgrade to Vista and they finally sent me that. I'm pretty sure I updated fully. I went back and check what I know to check... Whats Mobo drivers? and Putting the computer to sleep and waking it up I have not tried... maybe I'll try that later tonight. |

I'll read though that later tonight and give it a try. I'm at work now. Thanks. I hope whatever that thread says works! Well I glanced at the thread.. I'm not trying to access other computers or have other computers access the Vista one... I'm just trying to get the Vista computer to be able to surf the web... reguardless I'll try some of those settings you posted Znod. Thanks! Last edited by EBMCS03 : 03-26-2007 at 11:10 PM. |

| RTM = Release to manufacturing, it was a pre-release build. Your motherboard manufacturer should release a pack of drivers to update all your motherboard components... use the most up to date pack plus the most up to date network driver to see if that helps. These issues arent usually router related... but you can always check if there is updated frimware? crabby |
