Last night i did loads of scans on my hard drive looking for errors and bad sectors etc etc and found none at all but seatools (seagate diag program) fails on a short DST test (Drive Self Test) but passes on the long test.. im in contact with seagate about this to find out if there is a problem or not. Slow Boot.. well ive siwtched to my other motherboard witch is better and worse.. the mobo i was using was an asus p5b with an intel p965 chipset and a ICH8 for the south bridge.. im now using an ECS EliteGroup PF5 Extreme and thats intel 945 with ICH7 but the mobo has way more features and a Silicon Image SATA controller rather than a JMicron.. so i switched mobos and reinstalled vista and things seem much faster now... but my performance index for hard drive is still only 5.5 CD Problems... well these still continue.. if i use a cd thats scractched even just a little bit and the drive cant read the data that im trying to get to.. then windows just dies.. it dont crash as such but i cant get to the task manager, cant do anything! open any more programs.. close the cd window.. i have to reset the pc.. I have just done a firmware update on my dvd drive to see if that will solve the issue.. ill let you know after i test some disks. Wish me luck! ![]() |

| Well I'm glad you found a solution...I had no doubt that it was hardware, as opposed to software related. As for the CD, I would think the issue is your DVD ROM. You can try one of them CD/DVD ROM/Players cleaner to clean the lens. Dust or tiny particles can prevent the head from reading the CD/DVD properly, especially when there is dirt or fingerprints and such. http://www.amazon.com/Scotch-Cleaner.../dp/B0000DH8J2 |
