Hi all. I was using windows explorer to happily preview my pictures with the thumbnail selection on the view option. Now, all I get is the default windows thumbnail and I have lost the thumbnail view button on the view option of explorer. Its a bit annoying as I can now only see the pics with the viewer. I want to see the thumbbails so I can sort and delete as required. Does anyone know why this would have happened? I would be most grateful for a point in the right direction as I am really regretting getting my laptop with Vista on it. Never had this problem with XP |

| Hi there, first of all welcome to Vista Babble! So what you are saying is that now the thumbnails have been turned off, am I right? P.S - Just wondering have you downloaded all updates from Windows Update?

| I think MS wants users to use its Windows Photo Gallery to view and save pictures. You can still view your pictures using explorer (see snip) and use the slider to increase or decrease the picture size. On the other hand, Windows Photo Gallery (see snip) offers many more options. It can let you view thumbnails with or without text, print, fix and burn pictures, plus many more useful options.

| Hi - and thank you for your replies. I have all my windows updates (well so my laptop tells me) but whatever I set the view to in Exporer all I get is a default Icon. My partner has just bought a new Acer lap top and it all works fine on there, view the directories in explorer and you can select the icon view which allows you to see the thumbnails. Its just a bit annoying when you know that somewhere it can be fixed, but just cant find the fix. Wish I had kept to XP - that worked well. |

| Not sure if this is what you want but it worked for me. Click start, then type folder options in the search. Then under general click show previews and filters. (if its not allready ticked). Also in folder options go to the view tab and click reset folders. Hope this helps

| The instructions provided by Ant should do the trick. Just want to add that users can customize the Details Pane, which appears just below the Menu Bar (see snip). An easy way to do it is: Right-click the Start button > Select Explorer > Press the Alt key on your keyboard (this will bring up the classic style menu) > Select the View tab > Click Choose Details > Select the display you want (see snip). Note that you can change the order they’ll appear my moving the selected detail up or down.

| Thank you much Snuffy. There are too many stories about Vista, so I figured I'd write one with little child-like twist, but that could still get the message about Vista across.
