vist and xp network

Hi,
I have managed to add my vista laptop to my Linksys wireless network, but I cannot access the wired xp desktop on the network. I can see it on the network map but when I click on it it asks for a user name and password which is one of my known ones. I also can't access the printer attached to the desktop. Help please.

Thanks, I have checked tose sites and I can actually see the other networks now on the map. I still cannot access them as it asks me for a username and password. Still no joy with the printer. It is currently attached to the desktop with sharing turned on. Thanks

Had you tried just entering your Windows login name and leaving the password box blank. Not the computer name, but the login name. The one you can view if you click Start and Log Off.

Perhaps you can give this site a try if you haven't done so. It provides some excellent info about networks. http://windowshelp.microsoft.com/Win...etworking.mspx

Mark, just in case you are still with us. I installed Win XP in my desktop computer (actually I just plugged in the HD where I have XP installed). My desktop is wired to the network through an access point and I could get access to my wireless Vista laptop without any issues.

These is what I recommend: Disconnect your wired Win XP PC from the network and use the wire to connect your Vista PC. Go to the Network and Sharing Center and make sure File Sharing is ON > Turn Password protected sharing Off. See if that helps.
