Vista and DLink

A customer of mine bought a new Vista Laptop and DLink DSL-G604T wireless modem/router for home use.

At our shop we have the same modem/router and and both my Acer XP Laptop and their Vista Laptop work on this wireless network.

At my home I have my Acer Laptop and a Netgear wireless modem/router, both computers work here also.

But at their house neither Laptop will connect wirelessly to the Internet. Mine doesn't even see the wireless network yet the Vista one does but won't connect. The Internet works fine when using Ethernet cables. Have also done modem upgrades.

Is this a Vista issue?
Is this a D-Link issue?
Is this an ISP issue?

Appreciate any help,

Cheers
Quagaar

That sounds like a dlink issue.. get a replacement and i DONT recomend d-link.. try a speedtouch 585 or a netgear router insted.. there much more reliable

Since the Acer XP laptop also cannot connect (or even see it), then that eliminates the possibility of a Vista problem, I would think. The only way I can see eliminating the possibility of an ISP problem, is to take the client's DLink to your home, and see what happens there. We know your ISP is fine. If his DLink works ok at your place, then it has something to do with his place. If it doesn't work at your place, then it is the DLink that is definitely the issue. My guess is it is a bad router, but testing it at your place should verify.

Does one ISP use PPPOE and the other DHCP. If yes then simply change the Router to PPPOE. With 3 different ISPs here, we have only 1 that is PPPOE.

Assuming Vista is set-up correctly for wireless, then it would have to be a router problem.

Thanks for the feedback everyone. You would not believe what was the problem. I sent our computer tech (Murray) around to the customers house to set all this up, he spent 2 hours doing so without success. So I tried the DLink modem at my house and it worked fine, their computer works fine at my place also and at our shop. So I took it all back to their house and ran through the DLink setup wizard again. When I got to the ISP username and password, no-one knew what it was. I asked them how did Murray set this up without knowing the username and password? Dunno. So Murray had not even run the DLink setup wizard, which I assumed would be the first thing to do after hooking it all up. Anyway, it runs fine now and Murray doesn'tI don't use that tech any more.

Thanks again
Quagaar

You are very wise not to use him any more. Glad you figured the answer out.
