Vista Folders (Picture Preview)

I'm a bit of a CD snob I'll admit, I'm a collector and extremely anal about my music library as I have ripped every one of my CD's to have them at my fingertips. That being said, this is a relatively minor problem and involves MP3's, tagging, and obviously something else. I don't know how to best describe the problem but here goes. My normal process is to rip the CD, tag in Musicmatch (though it's obsolete I haven't found anything that comes close to comparing to the tagging features and ease of use it has and yes MusicMatch v. 10 works just fine in Vista Ultimate despite the warnings) creating a folder by Artist name, then subfolder for the album in which my newly created and tagged files go in. The issue I'm having is with folder preview where in Vista you can see an image on the folder icon indicating what's inside. For the folders in "My Music" all there is is artist folders with subfolders of albums by each artist. From the main folder of "My Music" and for each artist one or two of the albums are displayed in the preview.

I just ripped an album by Chevelle and did my normal process but it won't display the previews though the files are tagged with the image for the album Vena Sera. The folder properties are set the same as all the others
Right click->Properties->Customize->Music Details is selected. I've even tried changing the icon and clicking "restore defaults". I hope the solution is simple and I'm overlooking something easy.

BTW, the icons for the individual files of each album used to display the album icon as well (In Vista Beta RC2) but now they are the same icon you see displayed in the folder preview for Vena Sera. :S

Apologize for the lengthy presentation but kind of felt it necessary to fully explain the issue. Help is greatly appreciated.

Firstly... I dont really know how ot sort your problem

But secondly... you can use windows media player to rip music, its automatically attaches album details.

Have you tried deleting and starting from scratch?

I'm not sure but checking several forums and news links... there seems to be a very strong opinion that DirectX 10. and MusicMatch v.10 have problems.
Seems DirectX 9. does not create the same problem.

solutions: 1. Buy a Video card that is DirectX 10 compatible.
2. Disable DirectX 10 and install DirectX 9.

Running the dxDiag tool, I confirm I'm runing DX10. No video problems that I can tell and no problems with Musicmatch that I've encountered either. Maybe they fixed the compatability issues or I'm just lucky, but I've never had a problem with MM. They're just phasing it out so the support and features are starting to go away. I can't get the Yahoo Jukebox installed for whatever reason (tried 10+ times) but really that is a mute point as I understand the features I'm wanting are not in the new version. I'll give it a shot with WMP 11 that's installed but I'm weary of incomplete ID3 tag handling.

Question Now I'm confused

Seems DirectX 9. does not create the same problem. Unless I post all the possibles the problem you are experiencing is related to DX10 and MM10.
try disabling DX10 and install DX9.

Sorry for the confusion...the problem does not lie within MM. I've tried starting over and tagging the files in WMP, and various mp3 tagging programs (blanking each and every file with mp3ext program) Still no luck. Something has changed in the way tagged MP3's are displayed in the folder preview icons for some reason. Has anyone else had success in tagging MP3's and having it properly display the album image embedded within the tag on the folder preview icons as shown above? I'm wondering if perhaps letting WMP be the default player of MP3 files had caused this even though I've reinstalled MM v.10 and set it to be the new default program, but not getting the previews as shown.

I have iTunes installed as well but have uninstalled every program that possibly plays mp3's to remove them from any possibility of being the default player of the files thinking that perhaps they might be taking over icon control. It didn't change anything.

I've made some headway in this problem. It seems that my normal routine of ripping and tagging the whole batch of mp3 files from an album using Musicmatch is contributing to the problem. The tagging process works just fine, it's just that a specific file needs to be created called "folder.jpg" which is a hidden file of the album art embedded within the .mp3 files and placed in the same directory where the mp3 files are. Now if I have Windows Media Player open (not playing the files or anything in it, just have the program open to where it's monitoring the folders I told it to for new files) when I move the files to the "my music" folder and properly place them in the right directory...the icon is instantaneously created and if I go up one level, it's now on the artist folder as well. So the trick here is finding which programs will create the hidden 'folder.jpg' file that apparently is not done by Windows Vista alone.

That is propbably why they say your Version works but is "not compatible" with Vista.. only WinXP and Win2000.
Glad you figured out how to make it work.

You could always get a third party album art downloader.

Here is a good one:
